So I am a player in a wonderful Kingmaker game! Love my fellow players, their characters, the GM is cool! Yeah we had some rocky areas but who hasn't in a PBP right?
Because my mind can get bored and wander into the future of my games and characters I've been toying with the idea of my character Autumn Moon going from hunter I to the prestige class Hinterlander but I'm always nervous about prestige classes.
So I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about how to take this and build it... I don't want to say properly so Maybe, just well. Make it work well I guess.

Looks like a pretty straightforward development. Painful-ish point is the feat tax (Endurance). I'd focus on magical beasts for the first favored enemy.
Other than that, archery stuff. Kingmaker's generally fairly straightforward ... depending heavily on the GM.
Since you're in PbP you should have plenty of time.

My main worry is the animal companion. While the Hinterlander was obviously made to go out of Ranger, it doesn't give any bonuses to animal companions and that is a key figure in the Hunter's build.
Is what will be gained from the archetype be enough to change the fact that her animal companion is lacking in another areas?

Well, there are feats and traits and whatnot that can make up for some of that. 10 levels' worth, I dunno.
Pathfinder companions I've found to be utterly "meh" once you're entering mid-level territory. They make great super-tough mounts. Other than that, I hate the division of a character's gear budget typically required to keep them up and running.
OTOH, the carry companion spell is Your Best Friend. Keep your trusty pet/mount/pet attack rock in your pocket once the game outstrips their usefulness as a direct attack minion.

Half orc Shaman Apprentice gives you Endurance as a bonus feat. Beats Human for the extra feat of you're having to take it anyway.
As for the prestige class, take nature soul and animal ally, pick Wolf, call it a day. Or just not be an animal companion ranger. Bond with companions, not with an animal. Otherwise this is fairly straightforward. If you haven't already, I would consult with your GM about the actual usefulness of the Prestige class, as favored terrain is only useful in those specific areas. Having not played kingmaker yet, I don't know.
My guess, just based on the premise of Kingmaker, is that you'll be fighting a lot of humans when you're in combat. Also getting a wand/scrolls of instant enemy asap will be super helpful.
