Sniping Tactic

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

As a rogue can I shoot from cover to get my sneak attack bonus, succeed with a stealth check and get my sneak attack on my next turn? Would that work if I moved to a different spot with cover, assuming I succeed with my stealth check?

Yes, but even if you do a full round attack on the 2nd round you only get sneak attack on the first attack you attempt.

The standard tactic is you start hidden, take 1 shot at an unaware target in 30'. That first shot gets sneak attack damage but also alerts everything to your presence. You take a move action to relocate and make a stealth check. Generally speaking you can only move half your movement to make a stealth check with no penalty. Everything would get to oppose your stealth check with their perception. Repeat.

Since you are only 30' away to get your sneak attack dice it isn't all that hard to just walk over to you and figure out where you are hiding. If there is a large group of opponents and you are the only attacker, they can flood your area and find you.

Lots of specific things can change bits and pieces of this tactic. if your target can't sense you (say they have been blinded, or you have dark vision and they do not and you're in a pitch black cave) you can take full round actions and get sneak attack with everything (but no chance to hide). Or you could have special abilities that let you move faster when making a stealth check. Lots of things can alter parts, but that is the basic framework of the tactic.
