PFS Hellknight Gear Advice / Questions

Advice

I'm fleshing out my level 3 Fighter (Armiger) who is a Hellknight of the Gate (PRC at 6th level) and is a Dagger TWF build.

I'm stuck on a few points--

1. Can I buy/wear Hellknight Armor before I actually get into the PRC?

2. Can I buy Hellknight Armor made of a special material?

If so, is it worth it to do so?

(I'm leaning towards fireforged steel which seems thematic)

3. What traits are worth taking?

I know I want one of my two traits to be one of the Hellknight themed traits, but I'm up in the air on which are worth it.

4. What's the best use of my 5027 gold?

Things I'm considering-

Hellknight Armor (2000, or 50000 for fireforged steel)

then various MWK daggers-- MWK Mithral (802), fireforged steel (1002), MWK Cold Iron (304)

Fore reference my build is:

Spoiler:
STR 18, Dex 15, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 9
Fighter Armiger 3 (replaces 1st level bonus feat)
Two Weapon Fighting
Double Slice
Weapon Focus (Dagger)
Advanced Armor Training (Adaptable Training- Acrobatics)

The Exchange

so you are a recruit but want to wear officer armor. Im sure that will go over fine with them. i would recommend buying lots of stuff to help survive, and not focus on most of money going to one or two things.

Agreed. I have a friend who used to be an Army Ranger(still is I guess, he says once a Ranger always a Ranger). Apparently, the Rangers have their own special haircut that only they are allowed to have. Whenever he sees anybody with that haircut, either military or civilian, he gets really pissed off. In this case, it is more than just armor. It is an honor and a sign of accomplishment. If you haven't earned it, you don't have any business wearing it. You can try and wear it, but if a real Hellknight catches you, expect reprisal.

Except of course that can't really happen in the context of a PFS game?

If my character concept is "Hellknight" and I invest in the Hellknight traits and archetype, why is it magically at 7th character level that I get to buy the item that is the armor that is supposed to define the character?

My advice: ORIGINAL CHARACTER, DO NOT STEAL!

What does this mean in this case? Well, up until you have the prestige class, the armor is mostly just for show- no additional effects. So you might as well go with a regular suit of stern looking dark full plate with a skull motif or two.

You can't go around copying a hellknight order's signature armor without getting in trouble... but it isn't like they are the sole owners of dark knight looking armor. While Cheliax might have some powerful copyright laws, I doubt they completely restrict you from these motifs.

You can make it a character arc- he is a hellknight wannabe that slowly works his way up until he is allowed to finally gain the position and goal he always held dear. it is like how a person always wanted to be a cop, and then finally he gets the blue uniform and badge (and wearing a uniform before that would get you in trouble...).

Mithral is already masterwork baked into its price, so only 502.

Ah. I only just realized that they errata'd the mithral item prices.

There used to be a time when the "other items" would be priced per lb AFTER the weight reduction. As such, they would only cost half as much- as demonstrated by things such as the mithral waffle iron (unfortunately, a lot of sources already changed the price, and the errata serves as the sole evidence of the change).

But the reason why they changed the price was probably because weapons fit under the "other items" description. This wouldn't be a problem for most items... but it would create the silly situation where a mithral dagger would cost 252 gp (since mithral stuff is masterwork, that would actually be a price reduction).

But sadly, they noticed this problem and patched it out. Everything is priced based off of the weight of the normal iron variant.
