Retraining with level based prerequisite

Rules Questions

I am not sure if this has been answered but i had an odd question in regards to retraining.

So the feat I want to retrain is Auspicious Birth, but my character is 8th level. Now based on the the retrain rules I will have to retrain my first level feat. Then if I wanted or needed to keep that fat I would have to retrain that to get it back?

I don't see anything that says I can't do this, unless I missed something.

Auspicious Birth:
Prerequisite: Must be taken at 1st level.
Benefit: Choose one of the following benefits based on the astrological event that occurred during your birth.
Apparent Retrograde: You gain a +1 luck bonus on Reflex saves. A natural 1 on a Reflex save is not considered an automatic failure for you.

If I understand your question correctly you are asking if you can re-train out of the "must be taklen at 1st level" feat, and then re-train back into it?

If so, I believe the FAQ on it would rule out re-training back to the 1st level only feat; you can retrain to feats that you meet at your current level (which implies, at least to me, that you can't retrain to feats that you do not meet the prerequisites for currently).

There's no good RAW about that particular situation, though, so it is an interpretation.

Agreed: If you are retraining at level 2 or higher, you are no longer '1st level' so you technically can't take such a feat. After all, if your birth wasn't auspicious at levels 1-7, why would it suddenly become so?

Of course, like pretty much everything in the game, the real question is 'will your GM allow you to retrain it?' (unless you are playing PFS, of course).

I disagree. If sorcerers can retrain the bloodline they were born with, you can retrain the auspices of your birth. I think it works as the OP proposed.

Nope. When you retrain into a feat, you can only choose a feat you currently qualify for, not one you used to qualify for. You're no longer 1st level, so you can no longer take those feats.

On the flip side, you can choose feats you currently qualify for that you didn't qualify for when you took the feat being replaced.

That makes sense. I had a feeling I was missing the fine print on that.

I agree with why is my birth all of a sudden. I was thinking the same but though I would ask the question. Maybe my birth was never explained and it was a hidden power I don't know.
