As a fan of the old G1 cartoon (for all its faults and shortcomings), I absolutely loathed the Michael Bay films. But this new film (which seems to be a franchise reboot), for which I had absolutely no hope, looks like it has a surprising amount of potential to actually be a good movie. And it's directed by Travis Knight, of the excellent Kubo and the Two Strings.

*nods*
Reports are showing The Last Knight pretty much killed Bayformers 6.
So beep beep with Bumblebee and Starscream we go :3

I think I'm the only one who liked Bay-bee better than G1-bee. I really disliked that one. His red clone Cliffjumper was way cooler. Still, this looks better than anything else of live action Transformers. Not enough that I'll bother to watch it in the theaters I don't think, but maybe I'll pick it up when it comes out on BR.

This does look way better. And I think the writer is a woman, so hopefully we won't get any of the super creepy bayisms that showed up in the other transformers (I am looking at you, dude that keeps a printed out card with statutory rape laws jotted down on it).
I also like that the transform sequences seem toned down? Not like a million moving parts.
If this is good I am more than happy to pretend the other movies don't exist :P

Two new Decepticons were announced in Entertainment Weekly. They both transform into late 60s/early 70s muscle cars. And like Bumblebee, they look much closer to the Transformers of the cartoons and not the (ugly) Bayformers.
Dropkick (voiced by Justin Theroux) transforms into a blue AMC Javelin... which isn't really all that exciting (to me).
BUT! The other 'Con, Shatter, is female, transforms into a cherry-red Plymouth Satellite, and is HOLY CRAP! voiced by Angela freaking Bassett!!!
Sweet!

I like the bayformers, but I do see how someone else might not.

International Trailer 2 with several different new scenes, especially more Blitzwing (who is wearing Starscream's colors).
Looks really good. Definitely getting a War for Cybertron / Fall of Cybertron feel from the Cybertron scenes (which is a good thing).

You know, I am actually allowing myself to be lowkey a little excited for this movie. It is directed by the director of Kubo and the Two Strings, and seems from the trailer to have a much more interesting tone and more interesting characters, and I don't even necessarily subscribe to the idea that slavishly copying the G1 designs is necessary, all I care about is the general tone and quality of the story/characters and that it isn't directed by creepy Michael Bay and that the Bumblebee movie probably won't pause for 5 whole minutes to explain romeo and juliet laws.

That movie was just the worst. I was already done with the series before that nonsense that really pushed me over the top.

Sounds like Bumblebee is getting pretty good reviews of far.
---
As a not-quite-unrelated topic, if you liked the old G1 look of the Transformers in the Cybertron scenes previewed in the Bumblebee trailers (I haven't seen the movie yet), the first wave of releases from the new War for Cybertron: Siege (TF Wiki link) toys is popping up just now in stores. Nearly all of the alt modes (so far) seem to be Cybertronian vehicles. I can confirm that Hound (Cybertronian "jeep") and Skytread (Duocon: Earth-ish jet and Cybertronian tank) look pretty darn cool. The second wave -- which includes Soundwave (Cybertronian patrol hovercraft and that weird sensor array/"street lamp" from the first episode of the original cartoon), Ravage, Laserbeak, and Starscream (Cybertronian tetrajet) -- won't be out in the US until the end of December or January.
