Grendel's Mother

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Sorry if this has been asked before but how would you make stats for Grendel's mother? I'm thinking maybe take Grendel's stats but make her one size bigger and advance her to CR 25/MR 10 or so.

The original myth is pretty ambigious on, who Grendels mother really is. If the pathfinder version of Grendel is used, you could do, what you wanna do and advance Grendel.
CR 25/10 would put her above many demon lords, great old ones and far above creatures like the Tarasque. Seems a bit high for her mythological version. Than again, I would have made Grendel much weaker as well.

Since the poem is quite ambigouus and historicians are arguing, if she was a monster or a noble hero, you could make her a whatever you want. All we know is she lives under a lake and was really hard to kill for Beowulf: Valkyrie, NPC with fighter levels or Barbarian levels, sea hag, troll, ogre, demon, giant, nefilim and probably a dozen more pathfinder monsters could be fitting. It all depends on the look you want, which aspects you wanna emphasize and the power of the group you want to use her for.

Personally I would maybe use the Scylla's stats.

Pretty much I'd make her Grendel with a swim speed and better DR. Maybe some aquatic based feats, if there are any (otherwise I'd just substitute Flyby attack as a "swimby"), and a fair amount of stealth, because while it's been a long time since I read the epic, I seem to recall her getting most of her kills without being seen.

Well keep in mind Grendel is already CR 19/MR 7. Though 25/10 might be too powerful. How about CR20/MR10?

Also what would Beowulf be? I think a paladin with mythic rank.

mythic is almost a given, but I'd tend to classify him as a fighter or ranger, or even a barbarian... the religious aspect that looms always over a paladin seems to be lacking when dealing with the BeeWolf

Silver Crusade

I'd probably throw a few levels of brawler in there, or tetori, after all, he beat Grendel barehanded, and Martial Flexibility works for how he was able to quickly adapt to his new sword. Personally, I find the new stats for Grendel ridiculous, I prefer Paizo's 3.5 stats for him. Still have that magazine.
