no generalities here. i want specific examples, please. :-)

Enchantments.
Transmutations.
Curses.
Also some instantaneous effects.

That's likely as specific as you're going to get. Certainly it's as specific as I'm going to get, I'm not listing everything that's one of those for you.

i guess what i really want to know is: why would break enchantment be needed when the conditions it removes can all be removed by lower-level spells (enchantments by dispel magic, transmutations by dispel magic, and curses by remove curse)?

It breaks instantaneous effects, which dispel magic can't handle. It also takes on multiple effects at a time, also unlike dispel magic. Make note it also hits multiple targets.

Doesnt it potentially undo flesh to stone a level earlier than the traditional stone to flesh?

Also, versatility. It can reverse many effects. Rem curse, for example, only removes curses.

Like the others have said, it works on a lot of effects that dispel magic won't work on. Like Lathiira mentioned, it also affects many more creatures with one casting than dispel magic will work on, allowing you to free multiple targets from multiple effects (rather than one).

Break enchantment can reverse even an instantaneous effect.

An example would be the commonly mentioned flesh to stone and the like.

green caress
out of sight
awaken, interestingly enough...!

And any number of curses, supernatural abilities, or weird magic item effects that may or may not have been published.
