Well, my searching hasn't revealed much, so... I'm looking for some kind of program that will allow me to record game information. Now, it'd be easy if I just wanted to take notes or something - literally any word processor, yo - but what I'd really like is to be able to have story stuff on one side and mechanics (ability uses, attack rolls, etc.) on the other side, mostly in a column split. Each side should be separate - if I make edits on the right, I don't want it to mess up anything on the next page's left side (assuming there are multiple pages, rather than just one long one). Occasionally, I'd like to have pictures (that might be a page all by themselves, not cut off by columns. Microsoft Word can sort of mimic this, but having to create sidebars individually for every freaking page is a bit much. XD; I'd rather have something a bit more natural and user-friendly.
Does anyone know of software meeting this criteria?

Given the amount of mechanics information that history suggests will be included, a column setup seems like the most appropriate. XD Especially if it can be configured to automatically extend to every page (split properly, not column 2 on one page leading to column 1 on the next).
That will work as long as everything is in one "section" (you can create 'section' breaks in a document that let you change up things like headers, footers, #columns, etc. It's a nice layout tool).
If you create more than one section, you just need to make sure that both sections are set for "two column", or whatever your choice is.
MWord is an extremely powerful document layout package when you dig down into all the settings and controls. I'm pretty sure you can do everything you want within that package.
You may find it useful to ask in the MWord user forums for the specifics.

            Just as an example:
You can create multiple section breaks on one page. When you create the new section you have a choice of it being "continuous" (starting on the same page with no visible break), 'next page', 'even page', 'odd page'.
If you use "continuous" you can do some interesting page layout things.
