Has anyone played a Strix Airborne Ambusher / Dervish of Dawn...

Advice

The two archetypes seem to mesh really well. You have flight, hover, fly by attack, a whole host of movement and charge abilities, pounce, lightning strike (extra attack). Full BAB, fighter's bonus feats. Simple, martial, light and medium armor, and shield proficiency.

Looks like a blast to play. I can't be the only person to have seen how well these go together.

Has anyone played this combination in any capacity?

I'm thinking an archer maybe? Wisdom of the flesh for flying. Erastil's blessing for wisdom to hit. Medium armor, composite longbow. Forget dexterity except for prerequisites. We can call him Cupid. He is STRand WIS based, fighter. With pounce and lightning strike's extra attack. You will need improved snapshot for this dynamic to work with a bow. Throw in rapid shot and manyshot. Oh my.

Lots of options with something that can fly and hover above you with a fauchard or whatever. Greatsword Battler and vital strike.

Just for kicks...
Cupid:
Trait 1. Wisdom of the flesh for fly.
Trait 2. The Estiral trait to ignore soft cover
1. Weapon Focus
1B. Estiral's Blessing
2B. Hover
3. Point Blank Shot
4B. Fly by attack
5. Rapid Shot
6B. Manyshot
And work your way into improved snapshot around the same time you get pounce at 11, make sure you have clustered shot by the time you get lightning strike's extra attack at 15.

Trick is to max STR out at 20 for the +5 to the composite longbow and a good CMD. Drag dexterity along with belts and items for prerequisites of archery feats, but you actually don't need any more than maxes out your medium armor. You don't need high initiative because you can get all buffed up and literally charge into battle with your bow. Wisdom based flight and attacks boost your will saves.

Freedom of movement, at last.

You'll need 17 Dex by level 6 to get manyshot then. You won't have more than a +2 enhancement so you need to start with a 15; not difficult for a strix but you're wanting to push a couple of stats you don't get racial bonuses to, so it's not nothing either. On 20-point buy maybe Str 16, Dex 13+2=15, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 8-2=6, raising Wis with level bonuses.

With no room for deadly aim or weapon spec at least in the first 6 levels, and with weapon training traded away, your damage isn't amazing. You still provoke AoOs when firing within an enemies reach with the snap shot line when you're not making an AoO yourself, though point blank master can overcome that if/when you get it. Firing into melee without precise shot, even if you're the one in melee, carries a -4 attack penalty.

I don't see any way for it to make a ranged attack on a charge. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?

Edit: to be clear, the damage isn't terrible, just not top tier. At 2nd with a masterwork bow it's +5, 1d8+3; at 4th with a +1 bow & +1 Wis it's +8,1d8+4; at 6th you get a +2 dex belt to use manyshot and +8(x2)/+8/+3, 1d8+4 is a decent number of arrows.

The Dervish of Dawn level 11 ability called Rapid Attack Ex. allows you to combine a full attack with a move. Charging isn't specific to melee only attacks. You would threaten 10' with improved snapshot, so you can fly up, stop 10' away, and full attack with your bow. And you have had Fly by Attack allowing standard action attacks at any point in your move since level 4.

Anyways, Cupid is far from perfect.

But the options for any weapon you want and the mobility, oh the mobility, from combining these two archetypes is just plain awesome.
