Cheif Sull and Pauper's Thighbone

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Chief Sull says "The difficulty of the check to acquire Chief Sull is equal to the highest difficulty to acquire a random item from the box"

Pauper's Thighbone says "Check to acquire: Banish an item“

So, um, what do we do? Is it difficulty 0, difficulty impossible, or banish an item? My gut says difficulty impossible but I'd really like that thighbone...

I'd think it's banish an item. That's the only, and therefore the most difficult, option on the card.

Hmm... This one is odd. Chief Sull gives the skill, just not the number of the check. And "Charimsa/Diplomacy Banish an item" doesn't make any sense.

With Teleportation Chamber the consensus was that if if said "NONE" then it couldn't be defeated and you couldn't close the location. But that was telling you to succeed at the whole check.

We also had the Mongrel Foes which ended with a reference to Lann, which is very similar (just a random ally instead of a random item). The idea put forth there was automatic failure.

So, I think I'd lean towards automatic failure as well.

+1 to automatic failure being the consistent ruling.
I’m on my phone or I’d make more of an argument.

Or just redraw an item with an actual check to defeat. That's what I do.
