Besides actual leveling....
So my Ranger has an effective caster level of 3 lower that my character level. Taking the "Magical Knack" trait, brings it up to only 1 lower than my level. What other item/tricks can raise me effective caster level?

If you mostly just care about Transmutation spells, Transmuter of Korada could help.
EDIT: Just kidding. It and Magical Knack are both Magic traits.
Not many abilities allow you to up your total CL. Varisian Tattoo and Spell Specialization allow you to choose one school and cast that at plus 1 caster level and one spell at 2 caster levels higher, respectively.

You might consider using alchemical power reagents. The Alchemy Manual and Adventurer's Armory list various common and mundane items that have a wide variety of effects, including increasing caster level. These are extremely(!) specific, though, so YMMV depending on the kinds of spells you're looking to use them with. For example:

My 5th level Oracle uses salt with boneshaker to bring her CL up to an even number thereby adding an extra d6.
