Do alchemists qualify as spellcasters for the purposes of obtaining familiars?

Rules Questions

While playing in society, I got a boon that lets you gain a permanent familiar as long as you are a "spellcaster", otherwise allowing you to use the boon for one scenario only. Would an alchemist qualify for the permanent familiar, as they do get them in tumor form, but otherwise don't usually.

"You may use this boon in one of two ways. First, you may take a pseudodragon as a familiar with the Improved Familiar feat as long as you are a spellcaster of at least 5th level (rather than 7th)... Alternatively, you can cross this boon off your chronicle sheet to gain a pseudodragon that follows you loyally for one adventure."

Thoughts?

No. Alchemists are similar to casters, but are not actually casters.

There is a FAQ that disallows tumor familiars from qualifying for improved familiar.

However, there IS a way to count as a caster: Take the Spell Knowledge discovery: It lets you cast a single sorcerer/wizard spell from your extract slots and turns you into an arcane caster: "You can prepare and cast this spell as an arcane spell." You can grab it at 4th if you pick a cantrip, as you have to pick a spell 2 levels lower than your highest extract.
