So i have a mystic. He is a "smite the heretic" kind of character. If two ships where close enough so if you could look out and see another person on the other ship though a port
Could l mind thrust that person?

Its not a roll to hit spell just a save or sucks to be you spell. Its not passing though anything....

Could i also vader that target through the vid phone as well?

Vader force chokes a sucker for failing him over a conference call. Just to clearify for those who did not know what i meant by vadering. That would be great for an intimidation tactic. Talking the pirate captian out of attacking you and mind thrusting a poor schmuck in the background to get your point across.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Space is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.

It's going to be very rare that you're able to see a ship at all out of the port window other than as a shiny dot moving in the vast distance. It's highly unlikely that you'll ever be within 25ft +5ft/2lvls close to something in space. Current estimations on the space combat hex grid sizes have ranges in the km to 1000s of km ranges (they're not actually a fixed size). Even if you are that close to the other ship, you still need line of effect to target them, which is stopped by the ship hulls between you.

I don't think the rules currently allow you to vader someone. Though, I expect at some point there will be (if there isn't already) a spell or item that does, it's just not mindthrust.

Ahh drats there goes my dreams of popping someones head as a threat.

Love the Adams

That quote is my go to response to almost every question about doing anything in space. It works for so much.

I'd allow that only if both characters were in tiny ships (racer, interceptor or fighter) and dog-fighting inside a planet's atmosphere - and I'd probably look into applying vehicle combat rules, specifically drive-by attacks.

Also, some kind of Concentration check. Both ships are probably moving quite fast. Use ship damage as a modifier to the check.

I'm pretty sure those are gone in Starfinder.

Yea i don't see concentration anywhere in the back of the crb.
