Weapon & Armor Resizing Question

My character, Thatch, came into a bloodstained handaxe a while back. It's medium-sized, and Thatch is small. Thatch was charged to carry it, mainly because he's the least-likely to hurt anyone with it. I was considering getting an effortless lace for it, but I'm unsure of how this weapon should be resized, if I should even use it.

What would y'all recommend?

I also have another question, with additional information first;

“Adventure Path”:

The handaxe was the preferred weapon of a deceased serial killer known as The Lopper. The axe in question, would have been useful against The Lopper, if anyone had used it, but further investigation of the item showed that it was cursed, so no one interacted with it, on purpose.

The question is; After the events of Harrowstone have been successfully resolved, does the curse on the axe persist afterword?

Sorry about the spoiler. The items in question were checked by our designated holy guy, and thus no one wanted to touch em'. According to our GM cursed items, like those, radiate with evil.
