Buy a Golem to Control

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Going into an area with several anti-magic fields (and a few wild-magic zones), my high level Wizard will be useless to the other PCs.

I've saved up some gold and am going to buy a Golem.

How do I control and how do I command it, RAW?

Regular Golem or Shield Golem?

Regular probably

Being mindless, golems do nothing without orders from their creators. They follow instructions explicitly and are incapable of complex strategy or tactics. A golem’s creator can command it if the golem is within 60 feet and can see and hear its creator. If uncommanded, a golem usually follows its last instruction to the best of its ability, though if attacked it returns the attack. The creator can give the golem a simple command to govern its actions in his absence, or can order the golem to obey the commands of another, but the golem’s creator can always resume control by commanding the golem to obey him alone.

If you buy the golem, one would assume that the creator would command the golem to obey your orders. Thereafter, you can command the golem so long as it is within within 60 feet and able to see and hear you, and it will continue to follow prior instructions when otherwise uncommanded.

I think so too but I really wanted a second opinion.

I spent a whole six-and-half minutes in the Core looking for a device that lets one control a Golem but didn't find one (not that my search was very exhaustive).

Yeah, the only way to permanently control a golem without having an intermediary or having to return the golem to its original owner is to get a shield guardian.

Buy a Golem Manual instead and DIY?
