I couldn't find the answer anywhere so I'm going to ask it, I remember seeing that you couldn't mix role cards with characters that appeared in the core sets with the same characters in the class decks... and thus I wonder about cohorts, specifically Adowyn and Leryn, could a player use the class deck character Adowyn and the WOTR Leryn, and vice versa?

Yes, you can mix and match.
For roles, it doesn't make sense as they're supposed to override your-pre role Character card.
When Adowyin's card says "Cohort: Leryn", otoh, that's all it cares about - a card that is Cohort, and that is called "Leryn". Otherwise, it would probably says something like "Cohort: WotR Leryn" or "Cohort: Hunter CD Leryn"
(That said, without being familiar with the specific iterations of those cards, I strongly suspect every Cohort is fine-tuned to work best with the character that comes in the same box with it. I may be wrong, of course.)

Sort of. CD Adowyn has a power that pulls Leryn off the top card of the deck, and CD Leryn flips to the top card of the deck. WotR Adowyn can pull Leryn from the middle of the deck, and WotR Leryn can shuffle into the deck to use one of his powers.
