multi class this character or not..........

Advice

i play urban Ranger (trap finding) and will take 1 level in shadowdancer (at lvl 7 or 9).

here is what i know:
i am level 4 now , Ranger urban (cant retrain or change the class).
abilites: (str:18, dex:14, con:13, int:13, wis:13, cha:12)
half elf.
feats: skill focus stealth, power attack.
Ranger lvl 2 feat: improve dirty trick.
animal companion = small cat. (will take some flyer at lvl 9).
will take the feats needed for shadowdancer, for 1 level only (fit the character).

now...... here are the 2 options ahead (let's say up to level 11) :
staying ranger (10, 1 SD).
VS
inquisitor 6\ranger 4 \ SD1 ).

losing another +2 BAB hurt. but the inquisitor add many many cool tools, especially solo tactics (or sharing them with the mount) that might balance the lose of BAB.

what do you think?

PF seems to have gone out of its way to make multiclassing mostly unappealing. I'd stick with straight Ranger, myself.

That's the general consensus. A small dip is sometimes acceptable, and can be offset by feats such as Boon Companion, but generally speaking advancing your class features is better than getting new ones.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

"Should I Multiclass?" Flowchart:

Q. Are you a full-caster? --> Probably not, unless (a) 1st-level, (b) prestige-class required.

Q. Are you a 6th spells caster? --> A 1st-level dip can add plenty of flexibility.

Q. Are you a 4th spells caster? --> Go for it, but with reservation in the case of core Paladin (an end-loaded class).

Q. Are you a full-martial or "martial mentality"? --> Absolutely.

the spells of level 11 cutvoer :

Ranger : 3\2\1
Ranger 4 \ Inq 6 : 1 & 5\4
so ..... evens out.

the mount \ pet will be full (Inq will take the domain or archtype.)

so, favorite enemy will drop, the BAB will be a lot lower , but what else will i lose out of the ranger?

So... Solo tactics worth it ?

Can you use Solo Tactics with your shadow companion and your animal companion?

Or rather, can you use both your shadow companion AND/OR your animal companion to help you get your Teamwork Feats to go off?

Wait. You don't get the shadow companion until later in Shadow Dancer.

Maybe Ranger 4/Inquisitor 6/Shadow Dancer 10? Or some ideal mix of all 3? Ranger 5/Inquisitor 6/SD 9?
