Help me for my charackter for strange aeons

Advice

Hey Guys,

recently my charackter in the advanture path: "Strange Aoens" died, and so i need to create a new one. We are somewhere in the middle of the second book and currently level 7.

My group consist of
- one Warppriest who functions as a Tank (his meta stats are good, however his tactical play is sometimes a bit of).
- An Alchemist/Rouge. He is basicly a damage dealer, flanker and debuffer (using some poisens and stuff like this).
- An Kinetist who also dipped in Paladin of Erastil and deals a good chunk of damage, however happens to miss a lot.

Healing is done mostly with wands and its working pretty good so far.

So that leaves me in a pretty balanced group and i first though about playing a wizzard (conjunction) to do a battlefield controll, buffing and general utility (we are missing detect magic in the group 0.0).

However i really struggle with the build since hardly ever play at this level. So i wondered if you had any advice on how to build a wizzard on this level (i read most wizzard guides already, however found them not so helpfull since they seem to be effectiv in a few rounds and after a few encounters they are done. This adventure so far has been very much dungeon crawling so iam a bit afraid of running out of options really early).

But iam also open to other ideas. Intrested also in the idea of a bard or one of the other psycic classes.

Thank you very much already :)

I'm only vaguely familiar with this path. I;m a big Lovecraft fan. Have been for about 35 years and I would love to play in this path. Anyway... since the fighting and healing are covered, how about a wizard (not sorcerer) who has a lot of knowledges, a couple of crafts and Use Magic Device. Partly so you can also use the wands, albeit poorly, but also to reflect that you're very studious. That's what Lovecraft stories were all about and I'm assuming, this path would also reward that kind of play.

Wizards are great, sorcerers are great, they both fill the same role a bit differently, and in a sense a sorcerer is a bit easier to play in a dungeon crawl as they tend to have a few more spells.

If you want to play a wizard that's cool too, maybe my favorite class. The first thing to understand about a wizard, especially one at your level is that you need something genuinely useful to do with your turn when you don't want to cast a spell. This can be using a wand, but then you need to choose your spell for the wand carefully, it should be something that is first level, does not rely on dc, and is useful in combat every time you cast it.

Or you can be an elf, or something else with racial proficiencies and shoot a longbow. You will never be exceptional, but you should be passable for some time with a good dex and elves get +2 dex.

Then pick your spells carefully and cast them when you need to, when they will turn the tide of battle, otherwise use your shtick: bow wand whatever. You can be creative, but it can be hard.

Otherwise go with the guides on what spells and feats and schools to pick.

Yeah. Sorcerers are a lot easier to play. Wizards can have a lot more spells, but you have to try and figure out what you might need for the day and prepare them. I only suggested that was because of the spellbook. I know the adventure path is very Lovecraftian and to me, wizards with their books go right along with it.
An elf could be fun. With their long lives, they can learn a lot. Even learn things that mere humans shouldn't know. :)
