I hope your situation works out okay, Ariarh.

Caslav of Lamu |

Btw everyone - thanks for playing along IC with Cas's various ruses :) If ever his bluffing starts to feel an impediment/counter productive to enjoying the game let me know and I'll scale it back.

Patenemheb Sitayet |

OOC, I thoroughly enjoy Cas's bluffing. And Patenemeheb is impressed at the well-crafted deceptions that he is aware of - and wondering which ones he isn't. ;)

Dain GM |

My apologies, but I have to head out of town early tomorrow morning for a serious family emergency. I may be able to post again on my Saturday (your Friday), so I’ll be off the boards until then. Thanks for your patience.
I hope things are going alright with your family and you and take all the time you need!

Internet is spotty tonight I believe due to weather.
I am typing a post in word, in response to translated conversations. I will include rolls for a couple local knowledge checks on the 'wolves' but nothing that will keep us from moving forward.
Hopefully the internet will continue to be cooperative.

I type all my stuff in Word; then Copy/Paste it into the board, at least normally. I've had many instances where a post was "eaten" so I learned that Word is pretty awesome (so wanted to work in a "Bird is the Word" pun - but, somehow, I manged to restrain myself :)

Patenemheb Sitayet |

I find that between the quotes from multiple characters and the rolls, my posts for this game tend to be longer than my average, so almost all go into notepad++ first. A short post I'm more willing to risk typing out swiftly in the forum.

She Who Knows |

I have not been able to post the last 2 days, sorry.
My mom was taken to hospital on Friday with an infection near her eye. Fortunately, while it looked bad and hurt, it hadn't affected the eye, her vision or spread through her system. It improved with intravenous antibiotics and she is now home again.
I had to do a lot of running around and combined with yesterday being tabletop roleplaying could not get to online games. And there was a lot of activity here. I have now read up to date and it does not look like I should post there just prior to combat.

She Who Knows |

One thing Red would have done is give healing each day to those who need it. Lots of us were down HPs from heat and the guy we rescued was still in a bad way.
Not sure how Dain wants to handle it but we should start combat near full HPs.

She Who Knows |

So am I.
Her cat was distressed by her absence [and not getting fed normally] and the two of them are happily back together. :)

Patenemheb Sitayet |

@Red: I am glad that your mom is recovering. And that healing is reasonable methinks.

She Who Knows |

Thanks for the kind words all.

Patenemheb Sitayet |

@Dain: I accidentally posted as Decimus in this thread at some point instead of Patenemheb. Could you move my Decimus profile into "former characters" so that it's not the default for my future posts?

Caslav of Lamu |

Hi all! I should be able to have a post up in the next few hours.

Dain GM |

So I might be wrong here, but the way I've played it in the past is that in a combat round you normally have 1 Standard Action and 1 Move Action; though you can swap the Standard for a second Move Action.
Standing Up is a Move Action.
As part of your Move Action you can grab your gear when you stand up.
As a bonus you can stand up, grab your gear, move outside an then do some kind of skill in this case like a Perception or Knowledge Check.
Unfortunately, you cannot Stand Up, do something that requires a Standard Action and then an additional Move Action to get outside your tents to see what's up.
Again, I may be wrong; so I'll allow it this time with no worry about ret-con and we'll just move forward.
That said, I'll have something up for the bad guy soon; but right now I need a nap - then I'll post :)

Patenemheb Sitayet |

Clarifications are always welcome. :)
I had it in mind that Patenemheb spent his first round getting up and equipped, with his second round going outside and shouting at the creature.

She Who Knows |

I believe you are quite right Dain.

Well, I'm not sure you want to spend 2 rounds getting ready if you can help it; but we shall see after your Knowledge Check comes up :)
I believe you are quite right Dain.
Thank you, Red :)
Bjoern stood up grabbed his blade and just did a perception check.
So it should be golden or?
Also, Bjeorn, are you able to see the combat map and move your character on it? If so, I assumed you were in the tent guarding Tairin and woke up - stood up, took your blade as you did, stepped outside the tent and did the Perception Check. If so, you could move up to 40 feet from where you stood and be in the right place.
Meantime, I guess it's time to have the bad guy go...

Dain GM |

Dain, you said it’s our move again, but you still haven’t provided Paten and Tairin with the results of their checks for identifying the creature (you said you’d provide them in the following round). Awaiting those. Thanks.
Holy Crap! When I was scrolling through the posts I missed both you and Paten’s rolls – I knew they were there; but I could not find them for my last post.
Okay; that said – here are the results.
Knowledge Arcana to assess whether this is a work of sorcery: 17
Definitely a work of either sorcery or some dark curse. It’s certainly not natural.
Knowledge Nature to identify a beast: 23
Via nature, it is clearly Undead – it is not human; it looks like the corpse of some beast that came from the stuff of nightmares…
Knowledge Planes to identify an otherworldly creature: 16
The body hails from some other dark realm, you suspect, but you do not recognize the realm of origin.
Knowledge Religion to identify a beastly servant or work of a god: 23
It is possible that whoever saw this might worship it as a god – but you do not think it serves a god, but some fell creature…
Survival to assess the threat: 22
It’s bad – very bad…
Knowledge Arcana to assess whether this is a work of sorcery: 18
Assuredly – it is not natural.
Knowledge Nature to identify a beast: 16
It is no natural beast; it is something far darker.
Knowledge Planes to identify an otherworldly creature: 22
You think it is a creature of the desert – the fact that it has the hooves a donkey seems disturbing.
Knowledge Religion to identify a beastly servant or work of a god: 10
You do not think it is a servant of a god; but it is powerful enough that some folk might worship such beasts as a god…
Okay; you both got the answers via your above rolls. My answers are esoteric at best; they’re meant to be used to communicate information to the other players who didn’t roll to learn more.
That said; here’s the official breakdown - Stats –
A quick aside you may not have considered – you’re camped about 100 Feet north of the main road to the oasis. If this thing roamed close to here it’s seem likely that other caravans might have been hit at this point during other nights and – therefore – if there were such attacks there would likely be rumors of them. You have heard of no rumors of such things; its appearance this night seems like either a huge coincidence – or no coincidence at all…
If you survive you may wish to follow up on this soon.

Dain, I'm sorry, I think I've screwed up my math.
I have Ala'Ihys at -8 HP, I thought it was from this fight but now I'm not sure. Before this fight, did you have him at full HP, not counting the NL damage?
The only injuries I can remember were from the attack in the canyon, and I thought he was fully recovered from them...

You should have been at max health before this fight.
The only damage you've sustained is from this fight, currently.

Dain GM |

Shouldn´t I move up to 20 feet? move action stand up, 20nd move action another 20 feet (due to medium armor)
Sorry, I forgot you were wearing armor.
Also; if I moved you in the wrong place, I need to know if you're able to move your character on the map.
If you are not able to do so, please let me know. Actually, even if you can move yourself, let me know that, too.
Thanks!

Patenemheb Sitayet |

There's only so much Patenemheb can reasonably say in a round methinks.
I hope he's conveyed the salient points to Bjoern, and the others by proxy.
I edited my gameplay post just there to add a key piece about its abilities.

Bjoern Ghostbear |

Being at hme I can move my icon.
Question there are only two squares between the enemy and Bjoern.
I made an arrow on the map to show my movement.
Why can´t he reach the enemy with 20?
And can´t he charge up to 40 feet?

She Who Knows |

Bjoern- Remember I used the fortune hex on you, giving you a re-roll to use.

Your initial starting point was inside the tent sleeping.
At this time Ala and Samir saw the creature and rolled initiative.
Ala fired and hit, Samir fired and got a natural 1 and dropped his bow.
You woke up and stood up as your Move Action on 14:I. Your initiative had you move 20 feet; I believe you ended up on J:10.
The enemy moved up and attacked Ala - Samir moved to flank with Ala - Ala moved back to shoot; Cas moved in to attack; Sefu moved to hit on the side.
Paten did what he could to inspire and called out Farrokh who has come forward this round and Tairin and Red have aided.
So at this point you can totally move to K:8 and attack, though I don't see an angle where you can do a formal charge at this time as your allies are in the way (if you're able to charge at the angle you're indicating, then cool - but as I'm seeing it, I don't think you can formally charge, though I may be wrong). This is kind of important as you miss if you can't formally Charge and hit if you can; but as it stands it looks like you're moving a 5 Foot Step to the left so you can Charge - if you can take the 5 Foot Step before a Charge you're good - but I'm not sure either way.
To clarify - I think the miscommunication came initially from me not understanding what you were intending to do.
To help me out with that, if you could indicate the Grid you end up when you're done moving, that would help me; as for myself, I'm sorry for the miscommunication - you're totally able to attack at this point.
EDIT: I consulted the rules, technically you can't take a 5 Foot Step and Charge. However, you can formally "Charge" if you can draw a straight line that covers the space of your character if the line goes between you and the enemy and does incur an AoO or run into an obstructing object on the way (such as a table or fire).
As there is nothing formal in the way then you have no problem and can do it.

Ariarh Kane |

@Red: Patenemheb and Tairin have already mentioned what the creature is during last round :
"Strike the undead thing swiftly, it will require many heavy blows to pierce its otherworldly carcass! Farrokh, advance and flank the creature, facing Bjoern! It may veil itself from sight!"
Tairin called out a swift warning to her companions, "Beware. We believe it to be a Great Ghul; an Undead; mind its claws and bite. It can create spawn and alter its form among other things."

Patenemheb Sitayet |

@Dain:
Wouldn't Farrokh be in melee by now? He has had two turns to act.

Caslav of Lamu |

I think this is the most tactically complex round of actions I've taken in a game in a long while.

Patenemheb Sitayet |

I would say the same, but I recently put up a round of buffing for a high level Battle Herald which went on for a while!
I'm liking Cas's attitude to fighting. Patenemheb is a little warier, but his opinion might improve once he sees some results.

Emboldened by possessing a supernatural weapon, Cas is trying out a proactive, head-on approach to facing supernatural enemies. If it results in getting murdelized (as it did last time sans magic weapon), he'll probably try alternate methods in the future.
OOC I agreed to take the magic undead bane dagger, and I feel it would be a real dick move to have done so and then not use it when we're faced with an undead enemy ;)

Dain GM |

How very brave of Caslav, clearly cementing Ala'Ihys opinion of him as a stalwart fellow :-)
I haven't read the game thread for a few hours, I hope that wasn't a eulogy....
I guess we'll see what you all do on the next few rounds :)
edit: just read the game thread...Oh Crap! Just sayin'
Touche' ;)
