Its time to start planning your trip to Winter War 45! It promises to be another exciting three days of gaming. Our schedule will be up soon, but registration is open and some events are popping up so you can obtain your convention badge and start planning the trip.
As always, we will be managing our GMs using WARHORN visibility. Check out the site for instruction on how to volunteer. The schedule will be posted soon.
Due to our previous venue being renovated, this year the event will be held at the Wyndham Garden in Urbana just off of I74. They will have a discounted convention block for those seeking room accommodations and if you volunteer for at least two sessions as a GM, you will earn a free badge. We are working on some incentive rewards for anyone willing to GM more tables so stay tuned.

Individual players/GM are certainly encouraged to submit requests for additions to the schedule. After having asked for that very thing for four+ years and receiving zero response, we stopped asking. We are happy to consider it but need to know ASAP as the schedule is pending finalization as we speak. Generally speaking, we tend to stick to the newest material because Winter War depends a lot on visitors from outside our local area and their feedback has always been new over old. Since we have control over our local events it is easier for us to accommodate those specific requests at GameDays. Also, if someone players the newest scenarios at the con, they can take that experience back to their local store and GM it.

The 26th is my Birthday so Im going to treat myself to some PFS goodness! Bob, let me know what you need run and I will gladly give two or more sessions. One request, I would like to play one of the specials, either 8-99 or 9-00 as I will have GMed them both twice by Winter War! lol Thanks for all you do and the kids and I will see you and Ali at FlatCon!

Here are some suggestions. These are scenarios I've missed playing when they were offered before.
08-05: Ungrounded but Unbroken
08-14 To Seal the Shadow
08-13 What Sleeps in Stone
Will look into this, but LodgeCon in Peotone is in February and will have more previous season content. It might work out better for that event.

I am making the schedule for Lodge Con, and those 3 are on it. If anyone else has any requests, I am willing to take them. I have a bunch of season 6, 8, and 9 on it so far.

I'm really pleased with the expansion of PFS/SFS space! Bob and Ali, thank you for working so diligently with the Winter War convention staff and the new venue to get us up to 16 tables per slot. For a change, my biggest problem at a con is choosing what to play rather than finding enough to play. I look forward to GMing/playing PFS in all seven slots, and I hope to see lots of my local and not-as-local PFS pals there!

Hopefully we will get enough players and GMs so all of those scheduled tables will run. I've heard some rumblings in the community that a few people are not coming due to issue that arose last year. I wonder that we'll be missing key members of our community. The event is a few months out, so no cause for concern yet, but we are still quite short of being fully staffed.

Our GM schedule is filling up quite nicely, but we still have plenty of opportunities. Remember, GM two slots and get your badge for free. GM three slots and get your choice of older, mostly retired boons from my own personal collection. GM five or more slots and receive a free block of Great Lakes exclusive d6s with the '6' replaced with the glyph of the open road, stamped for '17

Hey Bob, I don’t see anything on the Winter War website about the venue or accommodations beyond a note on the front page to the effect that the usual facilities won’t be used. Do you have any idea what the room rates will be? More importantly—and I’m pretty sure I’m going to feel dumb for asking this because it has to be there someplace obvious but I’m just not seeing it—I don’t see a place on the convention website to actually register for the convention. How much is a badge, in other words, and how do I buy one?
Cheers,
Christopher

We still have a few GM slots open so check out our Warhorn page if you are interested. Remember, 2+ slots get you a free convention badge. 3+ and we'll award you a random bonus boon from our personal library of unused boons, many of which are long out of print, including some race options. And if you are really industrious, we still have a few more blocks of special regional 2017 PFS d6s with the glyph of the open road left that are perfect for your next sneak attacking rogue or fireball throwing blaster.
Also, registration opens this Sunday, 3 December, time TBD. Be sure to get in early to reserve your seats for the games you want to play. Our schedule of event is submitted and entered into their database, just awaiting on approval from the convention chairman so they can be activated for view. In the meantime, you can review our complete schedule on the Warhorn page.

Expect standard release timing about two-three weeks prior to the event. I won’t be submitting the GM request roster until (1) all slots are filled or (2) January 1st which is my published deadline to receive the scenarios for free. We still have roughly eight tables to fill. Submitting multiple emails/request forms increases confusion and the chances something is missed.

Okay, signed up for convention, signed up on Warhorn, system won't let me sign up for a couple of the remaining GM slots. Email already sent Bob's direction.
...Does anyone need a room-mate?
I snore lightly, willing to sleep on floor if needed to sweeten the negotiation 'pot'.
Currently looking at Amtrak as my transportation option down, but willing to chip in on all gas/some food if someone is driving through the DuPage County, IL area and able to pick me up.

Still a few Gzm tables looking for a volunteer, but they are almost gone. If you want a free convention badge, register soon before they are gone
Be sure to tell your friends about Winter War. Player registrations are open and with over a hundred tables of OP, we have room for everybody! Okay, well maybe not everybody ;-)

...Would it be bad form to try and pre-muster my table for Salvation here on the forums because there's *A LOT* of bells and whistles involved and anything that can be done to streamline the process at site would be immensely useful and helpful?
Not bad form, but good luck pulling that off. It’s a crap shoot if the players are even watching this thread and the convention generally does not share that info with us

I've picked up a junior suite for Thursday night through Sunday morning checkout. In the event I need an alternate space for Sages run-over time, it's a good Plan C.
That being said, have an extra bed-space in the room, but whoever takes it will need to understand that there's the prospect we might have an epic scenario finishing up Saturday night.

As is almost inevitable with all conventions, we have experienced a couple of late GM cancellations and are looking for some help to cover those tables. If you are attending Winter War and are willing to help with any of these, please send an email to pfs.illinois@gmail.com
Thanks,
Friday 2-6pm, PFS 8-07 Tome of Righteous Repose
Friday 2-6pm, PFS 9-08 Birthright Betrayed
Friday 7-11pm, PFS 6-10 The Wounded Wisp
Saturday 8-mid, SFS Quest Into the Unknown
Sunday 2-6pm, PFS 9-10 Signs in Senghor

Despite the challenges of a new venue, poor hotel staff, etc. the convention was a success and fun was had by all. I had a looong, productive conversation with the board of directors. I am very optimistic that they are making significant changes moving forward like revamping the entire website including the registration process as well as cooperating with us to accommodate some changes that will improve PFS without negatively impacting the other games. I am excited about the possibilities for next year and hope everyone in the OP community will consider attending next year to see the improvements for themselves.
