Feats and Multi-classing.

Rules Questions

How does feat progression work when you're multi-classing? For example, a level 4 bard gets enough EXP to level up and takes a level in ranger.

you're over thinking it a little bit, your character level is 4 and you happen to have those levels in bard you then level up to 5 and decide to go ranger so your ranger 1/bard 4 but you are still character level 5 and progress for all things depending on character level as opposed to class level

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if that was how it worked.

Take a look at the chart at the start of the classes section of the Core Rulebook (pg. 30). Note that the top it says character level, not class level on when you get Ability Score increases and Feats.

Most feats are based on your character level except class based bonus feats. Those are based on your actual class level. For example let’s say you have a bard 4fighter 1 and you go up a level and decide to take another level of fighter. At this point you are a bard 4/fighter 2. You gain no feat for being a 6th level character, but you do gain a bonus feat as a 2nd level fighter.
