It's easy for an unarmored character with stealth as a class skill to be fairly good at it, and often it's useful, but it's not essential. Is your sorcerer OK with using their expensive-to-replace improved familiar as a scout?
I assume they are only using it as a scout after getting improved familiars because they want to pick something sturdy.
Nycars, for example. They have regeneration that only turns off with cold iron (and there is little justification for normal enemies to carry something like that around unless they are specifically aiming to kill the familiar).

Kind of depends on the sorc's alignment. If they're LE, an imp has at-will invisibility, TN has a nosoi psychpomp with the same. CN gives the nycar lemeres mentioned. LN has an arbiter with regen which only is bypassed by chaotic damage, making it as unkillable as anything can be. CG, NG or CN could get a faerie dragon which is very mobile and has greater invis 3/day. If LG they're out of luck on the scout front.
Of course the sorc might have some idea what they want already, I'd think they'd give it a thought before planning to take the feat.
