Occult Adventures Character Help Needed

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

We are doing a short module in October, but only using classes from Occult Adventures book. My question is: Is there an Occult Class/Archetype that can channel negative energy?

I would love to play a negative channeler as the majority of our party will be playing Dhampirs.

Dark Archive

There are some channelers among the Occult classes, but they are very restricted. The most normal option is a 6th level Medium with the Hierophant Spirit, but you do get it late and I have absolutely no advice how to build one of those (because for some reason I just can't wrap my head around that class).

There are also two archetypes for the Spiritualist, the Necrologist and the Usher of Lost Souls. But the first one requires you to be evil, and the second one only allows positive energy to harm the undead (which is the exact opposite of what you want...).

On a complete other note, might I suggest that each of you buys an Anatomy Doll. Since you have negative energy affinity, just attune the doll to yourself and willingly fail the will save every time you use it. Simple healing out of combat, although people will look weird at the party for pulling out their dollies after the fight.

You could play a void kineticist and ask if the void kineticist can do it with kinetic healing :)

The Necrologist is exactly what I want but we cannot be evil. Thats disappointing.

Shadow Lodge

Ask the GM if they'll waive the alignment restriction, given that the classes available are already fairly restricted and the healing options are limited?

The group I play with removed the alignment system. Whenever I read something along the lines of "I'd like to play as X but can't due to the alignment" it makes me glad we did so.

The Medium is pretty much your only option to directly get Channel Energy. If you're allowed to use Variant Multclassing into non-Occult classes, you could VMC into Cleric and get some additional channeling at 7th level, though that channeling would be of a Cleric 6 levels lower.

If you could find a way to channel Positive Energy, you can take the Versatile Channeler feat to channel both positive and negative energy. The negative energy will be channeled as if you were 2 levels lower, unfortunately, but it's something. I think there was also a feat or trait that lets you get healed from both positive and negative energy, but I can't find it at the moment...

A simpler option that might not taste as good going down is for the group to not all play Dhampires. In a setting where negative energy isn't really a thing (and this module seems like it might be, even if by accident), I can't imagine a race of creatures who can only be healed by it surviving very long as adventurers.

If you want negative energy, Spiritualists have you covered. It's not channeling, but they've got the single-target Inflict spells, and eventually Mass Repair Undead as a 5th level spell (which you get access to at 13th level).
