Bloodrager bloodline ( barbarian )

Rules Questions

When an bloodrager (abyssal) barbarian bloodrages do the claws and demonic bulk take effect immediately as part of the free action or does it take additional rounds for the claws and for the demonic bulk to take effect ?

Silver Crusade

Kinda confused with you saying "Bloodrager Barbarian", are you mutliclassed?

Regardless, that doesn't matter to the question you're asking. They take effect immediately when you Bloodrage. If they took a certain number of rounds or actions it would specify.

Not multiclassed but i listed as barbarian due to the sorcerer bloodline which differs from the barbarian bloodline ex. claws in the sorcerer section state that the claws grow as a free action whereas in the barbarian doesn't. i hope that explains a bit better

Silver Crusade

????

So are you a Bloodrager, or a Barbarian who took the Eldritch Feat line or Variant Multiclassed to get Sorcerer abilities?

Barbarians don't have Bloodlines. Bloodragers (which are their own class) have their own Bloodlines that are distinct from Sorcerers.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Bloodrager. i think it is easier to explain this way .. Do the claws and demonic bulk take effect imediately when bloodraged in the following build ?

Yes. Still don't get why not call him "bloodrager"...

As i see it, The Abyssal blood line from a bloodrager and from a sorcerer are different.

quote from the sorcerer: Claws (Su): At 1st level, you can grow claws as a free action.

quote from blood rager: Claws (Su): At 1st level, you grow claws while bloodraging.

so the sorcerer gets the claws as a free action for his SU, where as the blood rager still abides by the normal Supernatural Abilities (Su) rules, and a standard action has to be used to activate.

same goes for the Demonic Bulk (Su) which the sorcerer does not get.

I could be missing something, or its a typo but the same thing is repeated in the draconic blood line,

Liberty's Edge

Sorcerer rules are not bloodrager rules. Barbarian rules are also not bloodrager rules.

The abyssal bloodline bloodrager rules say that you grow claws while bloodraging. They also say that demonic bulk triggers when you start a bloodrage. The draconic bloodline says you grow claws, but the general rule "Unless otherwise specified, [the bloodrager] gains the effects of his bloodline powers only while in a bloodrage" overrules the general - the draconic bloodline does not allow you to grow claws while not bloodraging.

The bloodrager bloodline abilities come into effect when the bloodrager uses a free action to enter a bloodrage. You can think of it as a triggering event: the bloodrager bloodrages, so all these supernatural abilities come into effect automatically. They don't need to be "used" like generic supernatural abilities, just as a babau doesn't need to spend a standard action for its supernatural protective slime to rebound on an attacker.

The Demonic Bloodline abilities go into effect automatically as part of entering Bloodrage, no other time or actions needed.

The way I see the difference is that the sorcerer does not have any special time period equivalent to bloodrage.

These claws are treated as natural weapons, allowing you to make two claw attacks as a full attack action using your full base attack bonus. These attacks ... You can use your claws for a number of rounds per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier. These rounds do not need to be consecutive.

The sorcerer can grow claws whenever he wants, whether for combat or for roleplaying an intimidation check or for scratching a really itchy spot on his back. They disappear when he no longer wants claws or when his daily time limit runs out.

The bloodrager Claws power does not mention an action or a time limit because the claws are part of his bloodraging. In bloodrage he has claws, out of bloodrage he has no claws. The word "grow" is a little awkward in this context, because growing takes time. Saying he gains claws during bloodrage would have been clearer.
