Offensive ad on d20pfsrd

I was looking at a couple of pages on d20pfsrd when I came across an ad for a game called "Girls X Battle". In the ad, there were two young girls being held down against their wills with shocked expressions on their faces, one of which was in tears. One of the girls was in a school girl outfit, so one can assume they are minors. The kicker was that the ad had a tag line: "Shhh, Master, don't let others find out you are playing this..."

Really? It's bad enough that I see some pervy h-game ad on this site, but for it to show straight up CSA? Has anyone else seen this ad on the pfsrd site?

I'm not seeing it on my usual pages when using that website. Which pages did you see it on?

Hate to break it to you friend, but its the internet, and webpage ads are tailored to your search history.

I've seen worse on YouTube.

You'd probably have to take it up with the site administrators. There's a "Report a Problem" button on the upper left hand page of the screen. The site admins should be able to report to whatever ad service they use that they object to that ad showing up on their site and have it removed from the ads that might appear there.

One of the big problems with Internet ads is they're fueled by 3rd party ad aggregators and site admins can't directly control what shows up (just complain to the ad service)--and though I've been using an ad-blocker for ages, I discovered long ago that often sites that are themed "gaming"/if you're tracked for looking at gaming sites cause ad "services" to show some really disgusting sexist stuff simply because you're a gamer (because it's still a game, right?). This is of course is certainly NOT your fault for looking at gaming sites and there's no sensible reason for anyone to shame you for it (not to mention, none of anyone's business what you do search for).

If you want to keep using the site, I'd suggest donating to their Patreon (so they still get revenue from your visits) if you're able and then using an ad-blocker (which will also protect you from icky malware spread by ads these kind of ads). If you are concerned about ad-profiling you can use a private browser and/or if you have a Google account shut off search tracking (in your account settings). People who aren't seeing similar ads may well have taken certain precautions such as that.

A deeper problem is how these ad deliveries work to begin with but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

If you need access to just core RPG line stuff, you can always use the official PRD right here which is free and ad-free. Personally I prefer it for my own purposes, but I have specific tastes and needs.

Edit: I second everything DeathQuaker just said.

this, basically, the way ad logarithms work is they try to tailor what you see based on what you've shown interest in in the past.

So, clear your browser history and maybe the ad goes away

Thirding DeathQuaker. I've seen that ad pop up on d20 when I view it from the work computer.

On my work computer the only sites I go to are Paizo, d20, and Archives of Nethys and I still see the ads.

If you've ever so much as glanced at an anime or site that shows interest in anime on that computer you've probably got those ads.

Just those 3.

As someone who has had a hand in web-based marketing before, I'd like to second (er, fifth?) what DQ said: these ads have nothing to do with anything inappropriate your search history might contain.

Instead, they are carefully tagged so that they reach the right demographic, such as 20-50 year old males with disposable income. And guess what demographic crosses heavily into roleplaying gamers? And these aggregators don't check for content much beyond actual pornography. Borderline stuff slips by all the time. I mean, does anyone else remember the Evony ads? Guess who they were targeted to?

Would Tumblr count?

Also, thank you all for the responses so far, especially from DeathQuaker, RonarsCorruption and Ryan Freire.

Likely, tumblr is basically for pron nowadays.

Honestly? I haven't seen the ad, so it could be pretty bad, but the game itself seems pretty popular. It looks like a standard collect cards and battle kind of thing, but with anime girls instead of monsters or whatever.

Not Hentai and not even particularly risque.

I use Google Adsense for the banners that are not products in my store or banners for various 3PP promoting Kickstarters or other projects/products. Google is very good at targeting and I am able to block advertisers based on the URL of the banner in question. For instance, if the banner goes to http://www.girlsfight.com I enter that into the block category. I have hundreds of advertisers like this I've manually entered into the block list but sometimes the advertisers are tricky and have redirects or have the same content on another URL that they begin serving after they detect the first one is blocked. In any event, I haven't seen the ad in question but if you do again, you should be able to right-click on it and get the URL. Feel free to email that to me at jreyst@gmail.com and I'll block it asap.

Sorry about the inconvenience though!

Edit I think I figured out the URL and it and several of it's variants are now added to the block list. Please feel free to email me or direct message me here if you see any more!
