Earlier tonight, I ran into a monster that made me shuffle a random card from my hand into my location ... and, of course, out of four weapons, I wind up losing Soulshear. Nooo, couldn't have been the Icy Hooked Hammer +1 ...
We won the scenario without coming across Soulshear first.
Is there any way for me to retrieve or recover Soulshear now?
On a relate note, my wife nearly lost her Ring of Forcefangs the same way, but another character came across it. We assumed that, without a check to acquire, it was just automatically acquired. Was this accurate?

By RAW, the only way to get it back is to be short on cards at the end of the scenario so that you have to get a card from the box. At that point, you can grab any card of adventure deck number 2 lower than the scenario you just finished, including loot cards. So, if you lost an AD2 card, you need to be short on cards in AD4 to get it back. At that point, it may or may not be worth it...
Otherwise, you can houserule something. Maybe design a homebrew scenario which rewards you with the loot to emulate your characters going on a side quest to get it back.
If you encounter loot in a location deck, it is automatically acquired. MM rulebook p24: "If a loot card ends up in a location deck, you automatically acquire it when you encounter it."

I think also, technically, if a character who hasn't already completed that scenario completes it, then they can get the reward and recover the loot. My understanding is that the standard way to play is to just have one party and run them through all the scenarios in order (repeating the failed ones), but technically the rules are set up to somewhat handle more complicated arrangements.
Not that I personally would bother making use of that in this situation. Though I would also try pretty hard to get the lost card back from the location deck in the first place.

Well we like to play it "roleplay".
So we have two house rules:
House rule 1) that we always play:
1) A loot is a unique item. If you lost it, you lost it. No way you can "freely" get it back between scenarios.
House rule 2) that we play only we newbees and kids that are really sad when they lose shiny stuff (they'll learn later):
2) When in a later scenario (not replaying the same, that would be too easy) you get to build the same location as the one you lost it in, just shuffle it back in. So then you have a side quest to get it back. More fun than just drawing it from the box and you may need to wait a while to have the opportunity.

Eh ... I don't think of this as a role-playing game in any sense of the word(s), but I'll see what the other players think.
You can tell a good story and roleplay your character actions while interacting with the cards. It isn't much different than the difference between rollplay and roleplay with standard Pathfinder. I tend to play it just like a card game, but I don't see why it wouldn't make great roleplay with a few good storytellers.
As for the original question ...
If you are playing houserules, both the ideas of a side quest scenario or shuffling it back in when the location gets used again make sense.
When this sort of thing happens to us, well, if it is my character I just let it go and happily rebuild (especially if it is with Ranzak). When it happens to the kids, if they are just upset I let them banish a card and get that one back. The whole point is fun!
