These aren't simple 'better' questions.
Humans have that bonus feat, which can make builds requiring lots of early feats possible. Humans can also take Dual Talent, which helps some builds. Dwarves are less versatile, but have interesting options and can make very solid 'heavy' Clerics.
Honestly, start with deciding on your character concept - race, fighting style and role or roles in combat, primarily - and then ask what kinds of ways it can be done.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'Warpriest or sword and shield' - Warpriest is a class.
Clerics or Warpriests can fight well in many ways. If you like the weapon/shield idea, you might want to try a Dual Talent Human (to help with ability spread) who wields a weapon and shield with Two Weapon Fighting. But that's just one possibility.

What I mean by Warpriest is based off a two handed weapon build that I saw and that is what they called their build. I didn't know it was a class, but good to know. We have a guy picking fighter and I believe he is going sword and shield. Would a two handed weapon be a bad choice? If I went human I could go back and forth between two handed and S/S correct.

Two handed is never a bad choice, unless maybe you desperately need more defense. You can switch between two-handed and one-handed grip on a one-handed weapon as a free action, but equipping or removing a shield takes an action unless you have a quickdraw light shield.
If going two-handed, I like to really go two-handed with something like a greatsword or a reaching polearm like a glaive. 'Reach Cleric' is very popular, because you can cast spells while threatening an area with a reach weapon.
Cleric can make all kinds of things work - there's major power hiding in all those class options, though Divine Favor (later maybe Divine Power) are spells that every fighting Cleric usually wants to have 'up' in a fight. They combine with the Trait 'Fate's Favored' for a huge combat buff. My friend had a fighting Cleric wielding dual longswords, and he was a monster.

Sweet I am going to do a Human Reach Cleric thanks BadBird!
Sounds good. Lots of possibilities on how to build it, though the feat Combat Reflexes and at least a bit of dexterity are a good idea, since your ability to make Attacks of Opportunity with reach is very limited without it. The longspear is a fine weapon, and available to any Cleric (not that there aren't other options as well).
One important question is how much emphasis you want on spellcasting versus fighting; a Cleric can be focused on combat while casting spells mostly on allies, or focused on casting on everything with a weapon being secondary, or they can do both (a bit tougher to pull off but very possible). I like to split spells or powers and combat, with spells that create auras, but it's a bit more complex.
