Grove of Respite and amount of Goodberry

Rules Questions

Greeting oh ye of the Rules Questions forum, for I have a question on my own.

I am the GM in a game I'm running, with the party containing a druid that is very fond of casting 'Grove of Respite' at the end of each day. But the other day, a question came up, regard said spell, that I couldn't properly answer, and still can't, after googling around for an answer.

Grove of Respite:
You conjure a sheltered grove of trees surrounding a shallow spring. The grove appears from nowhere even in the most barren, rocky soil regardless of season, but the spell must be cast outside on open ground.

The area within the grove is temperate and comfortable, like that of a tiny hut, although the grove provides no illumination and provides no protection from the elements. The water in the grove's spring is clean and drinkable. Additionally, the trees provide a variety of ripe fruit, regardless of season, which acts as a Goodberry spell for up to eight people. The grove is warded with an alarm spell that alerts you whenever any creature enters the area. Once the spell expires, the grove vanishes, including all fruit, water, and other materials from it, although any nourishment or healing gained from its effects remains.

The spell mentions this: The trees provide a variety of ripe fruit, regardless of season, which acts as a Goodberry spell for up to eight people.

Yet, that doesn't make it entirely clear, for neither me nor my group, what the spell actually means with 'eight people', as the Goodberry spell:

Goodberry:
Casting goodberry makes 2d4 freshly picked berries magical. You (as well as any other druid of 3rd or higher level) can immediately discern which berries are affected. Each transmuted berry provides nourishment as if it were a normal meal for a Medium creature. The berry also cures 1 point of damage when eaten, subject to a maximum of 8 points of such curing in any 24-hour period.

Has that 2d4 component to it.

My question is basically this: How much hp would a character be able to recover, by staying in a Grove of Respite for one night, and eating as much of the fruits of said grove as they can?

Would this be, 1 hp per person, up to 8 people?
Would this be, 8 hp (per the Goodberry limit) per person, assuming there was enough fruit for everyone, as there would be (8*2)d4 amount of 'Goodberry fruit' around?

How would you rule in this situation? Any references to FAQ (if I managed to miss them) or so would be appreciated, but just your opinion (and how you and your group have done it in the past,) is very welcome as well.

Thank you.

Well each berry provides 1 meals worth of nourishment for 1 person and you get the effect for 8 peoples worth so a reasonable conclusion is that you get 8 berries total. The fact that the maximum number of berries you can get from the goodberry spell is also 8 also lends validity to this conclusion.

Once you have the berries you can divy them up however you like.

I do not, however think you get 8 castings of goodberry, or up to 48 berries total as that seems ridiculous.

Edit:
"...which acts as a Goodberry spell..."
A spell, as in singular.

IMO, it reads as up to 8 people can get the effects of 1 casting of goodberry: so each person would heal 2d4 hp and nourishment. It doesn't say a single person can get multiple castings of goodberry though, so it's limited 1/person. "up to eight people" not '8 uses of goodberry'.

Unlike Gobo Horde, I don't think it's possible to "divy them up" as it seems like you eat your fill of fruit and you get the benefits like you ate all the berries from a casting of goodberry. Again, up to 8 people not 8 uses.
