What to be or not to be

Advice

Friend may be starting a new campaign of Hell's Rebels. I am leaning towards more of a beat stick type character. The idea is that of a samurai who is trying to regain his honor. Yes, I know it is unoriginal but I just want to have some fun. I have a nice backstory which doesn't really need to be mentioned.
Class options are Ranger, Samurai, or a Two Handed fighter archetype.

Musts: wielding a Nodachi, and having some out of combat purpose and durability, mostly durability. Any help is highly valued, and no I am not looking for optimization. I may ask the DM is the mount for samurai can be retooled to just be a companion.

THanks

Sounds like (possibly ronin) samurai to me. Don't dump Int completely and you'll still have some skill points. The sword saint archetype replaces the mount and banner ability chains with iaijutsu strike, which is pretty much straight out of your favorite samurai movie.

I think (deep breath) the dandy archetype of ranger would work well. Despite the name it's not required that you be a 'dandy', just someone who knows the court. It does come with a number of abilities appropriate to a noble & there's a lot more for it out of combat than a samurai by class.

Thanks for the advice so far. Then here is the next question. Do i go the cleave tree or an intimidating build?

Cleave gets old faster than you'd like, especially once monsters start getting big. Intimidate may stay useful longer but there are quite a few things immune to it, especially undead. I'd go with intimidate of those two; YMMV.

If you want durability make sure you get something like pushing assault to give you an effective defensive option in combat.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the paladin class as well. I am building a level 2 paladin. I am not sure what the best race or weapon would be for the archetype called the hospitaler. I only have 700 gold starting out. I would like to heal but still be able to do good damage. We can only use core, featured, standard and uncommon races. Right now, I am favoring human or aasimar. Any help would be much appreciated.
