Beastshape and ioun stones

Rules Questions

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

What happens with your ioun stone(s) when you beastshape? Since they aren't in contact with you when you change, do they become part of the new form or continue to circle over the head of the new form?

If they become part of the new form, since they are not activated items, but continuous, do they continue to work? Would the new form, for example, glow if it was an ioun torch?

The Concordance

Technically, all gear melds when you polymorph into an animal form. Even the gear orbiting you.

They continue to work (the continuous ones). Ioun Torch is a weird example, as it's a permanent spell effect that gives the light and not the item itself. I'd say activate the Ioun Torch after shaping if possible. As a GM, I'd have the continual flame effect cease if a player ploymorphed into an animal with one.

Regarding the ioun torch specifically, the rules don't resolve this well, but I'd say it either makes your head glow or a ghostly wisp of light source continues to revolve around your head in the same manner as the stone. In any case, it does continue to work somehow.

Otherwise, take JAF0's advice--drop the stone, shape, then equip the stone again. This could be difficult if your new form isn't capable of doing the "hold and release" action required to set the stone spinning about your head--or if your new form doesn't have a head.

i would say that ioun stone do not merge since they are not in contact with you and have their own AC, HP and hardness listed, ioun stone are very vulnerable, so making them meld will make them more powerful as they are
