Enchanting Item Prices

Rules Questions

I would like to enchant my Masterwork Shortbow and Masterwork Scimitar, and my animal companion's Masterwork Studded Leather Armor. How much does that cost? I'm looking at the tables in d20pfsrd, but it's confusing.

if by enchanting you mean giving each of them only a +1 the price for weapon for each the price is [bonus square x 2000GP] and armour is [bonus square x 1000GP] easy as that, some enchantment say their price are a +1 like flaming so a +1 flaming weapon would cost the price of a +2 weapon, some enchantment have fixed price and are not multiplied by the rule of bonus square x price.

By bonus square, you mean the +1, +2, etc, right? Thanks.

Oh, but my animal companion is a boar. How would that affect the price? The table in regular armor says that armor for small and medium non-humanoids is twice the cost.

only for the armour and special material not for enchantment and masterwork

yes the +1, +2 are the bonus square

Understood, thanks. I have just enough to enchant both my ranged and melee weapons and my companions armor.

Though, there's an active discussion about this...

Since the OP already has the masterwork item, anyway, it should be safe to say that making it +1 will only cost 1000 gp.

Do note that the prices listed are only if someone else does it. If you enchant the gear yourself (which requires the correct item creation feat), you do so at half that price.

Close. You're going to look at the TOTAL enhancement on the item.

MOST enchantments are priced in terms of +1's. A weapon can only ever have a total of +10 enchantments:

  • Up to +5 Enhancement Bonus
  • Up to +5 of special abilities

To determine its price, add up the TOTAL bonuses from enhancements and special abilities. THEN apply the formula John gave you. So if you have a +1 Rapier, it will have a price of

(1)^2 * 2,000 = 2,000

If you have +2 Holy Flaming Burst Rapier, it will have a price of

Math wrote:
(2+2+2)^2 * 2,000 = 72,000

Note, as Jeraa says, there are variables that change this price.

If you're enchanting it yourself, you will pay half the price. If you're paying someone to step it up (from +1 to +2, or from +1 to +1 flaming), you'll usually just pay the value added. And if you're stepping it up yourself, you'll usually just pay half the value added. In all cases, refer to your GM.

I do not have any creation feats. But an NPC in the town does. The items aren't magical yet, so it'll be a basic +1 enhancement. So it'll be 3000 gold total.

since in an earlier post you have said both your ranged and melee weapon and your companion armour the price would be 5000 GP not 3000, +1 weapon is 2000 so twice is 4000GP +1 armour is 1000GP so 2000+2000+1000=5000

Not quite correct. The item is limited to +10 total, but you can have more than +5 worth of special abilities. You can have a +1 weapon with a total of +9 in special abilities. As long as the actual enhancement bonus is +5 or less, and the total modified enhancement bonus is +10 or less.

Turns out I don't have the gold for both weapons, so I'm only getting one for now. I'll be able to get the other weapon enchanted soon enough though.
