Tinkerer Familiar Body shape (PFS)

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Playing a Tinkerer Alchemist Currently and this section of it's initial ability bothers me.

'A tinkerer’s familiar can take any shape the tinkerer wishes, but its statistics and abilities are identical to a clockwork spy with the normal adjustments and abilities for a familiar applied'

Does this do anything practical or is it just for cosmetic purposes?
Or does it allow for weapon wielding due to bodyshape when it reaches it's improved form so that alchemists can walk around with their own gearsman?

I am leaning towards the cosmetic interpetation but I would like to have confirmation.

Weapon use and slots would be an ability.

i.e. It looks humanoid, but the hands aren't really that dexterous and the waist is mostly just empty space that can't support a belt.

Sovereign Court

In PFS the familiar would need to be in the list of familiars that can use tools. Those lists were mostly based on body shape, but how the rules were made doesn't matter, just what the end result is.
