An Idea for racial weapon proficiency issues.

Advice

I've noticed that a lot of people are having to resort to bs tactics to get bonus from their racial weapon proficiencies, especially orcs and half-orcs. it's gotten to where they carry around a corpse of their own race to use as an improvised weapon (turned into a martial weapon because "orc" corpse).

i have been thinking about the balance of the weapons list, and think it might behoove to make an additional rule to add a race name to the front of a weapon in a similar manner to how one would pay extra for a masterwork weapon.

judging by the:

Axe, orc double-60gp
Curve Blade, Elven-80gp
Hammer, Gnome hooked-20gp
Ugrosh, Dwarven-50gp
Sling staff, Halfling-20gp

i'm thinking that a 30gp price could be added to make any old weapon a [race] weapon for the purpose of proficiency and qualification for feats (Orc Weapon Expertise comes to mind).

given the above data, i'm thinking that small weapons could have this modified by 50%, and large to maybe 150%, in consideration of how the Gnome and Halfling weapons seem to be the cheapest (i'm assuming the reasoning relates to the damage output of smaller weapons).

1. Flagging for a forum change this should be Houserules.
2. What GM would let you get away with "orc" corpse?

First off, I've literally never seen a single player carry around the corpse of a race and state that the corpse can become a martial improvised weapon simply because of the original race of the corpse. So, not sure where you are seeing "a lot of people" doing that...

Secondly, I'm trying to understand exactly what rules question you have in your post. This seems more like it would belong in the Homebrew section as opposed to the Rules Questions section.

If I'm understanding your stance, you are wanting to remove the racial names from all racial weapons. So, instead of the Elven Curved Blade, it would simply be a Curved Blade and then you would pay the extra 30gp to make it a Racial weapon? So, you could have a Curve Blade, Orc? Am I understanding this accurately?

What I never liked is that there were a bunch of weapons introduced in the Gnomes of Golarian book and none of them had gnome in the name, even though they were clearly designed to be gnomish weapons. I would houserule that any of those would count as gnomish weapons for the purposes of the weapon familiarity trait.

Said weapons got reprinted in Adventurer's Armory 2 and have the word "Gnome" added to their names.

So there's no need for that house rule anymore.

Scarab Sages

I'd really like to see some deities that have favored weapons from their primary race's weapons. Like an Elven deity that grants Elven Curved Blade, or a Dwarven Deity that grants the Dwarven Longhanmer. Right now there are a bunch of Dwarven Deities that grant Warhammer, and nine that grant "Dwarven" weapons. Maybe there's a Dom-dergar one? I can't remember.
