Cavalier Order Question

Advice

This is kind of an odd question as I think the answer is just gonna be "Gm Discretion" but I want another opinion on this. I love Cavalier's, and I love the idea of them, especially with the order. However, mounted combat isn't something I care about, and I haven't really found any archetypes that I like. Any suggestions? Would an order allow a fighter to join them? Paladin isn't an option, this character would rather barf than be lawful.

You could look at cavalier variant multiclassing - that would let you play a character of any other class, while trading out some feats for benefits from orders and such. ^_^

Order of the Pike is pretty great for non mounted. So is the daring champion, the swashbuckler copy.

An order isn't necessarily a military organisation. It sure can be, some orders lend themselves to being organisations and your GM might make a world where all cavaliers are members of different knightly organisations. But other orders clearly implies that they are "just" personal codexes and migh very well make a world where no organisations of professional mounted warriors exist at all.

A personal favorite of mine is to have military organisations that have a high percentage of cavaliers, but there's also other mounted characters like fighters, rangers, maybe paladins and NPC class warriors. And the cavaliers have 2-4 different orders that all reflects diferent aspects and focuses of the overall eddicts and goals of the organisation.

Anyway, unless your GM has very strict policies on the subject, play a cavalier because you want a character with a personal code. And don't bother with mounted combat. A cavalier can hold her own even if she treats her horse as nothing more than an oat powered scooter.
