I remember looking at this spell and thinking its garbage.
It isn't great. Being an immediate action spell helps it though, since at least it uses less action economy.
I could maybe see using it at higher levels when it would do a bit more and you have first level spells you aren't using for anything else.
Still, that is only a maybe using it....

Quickened spells can't be used as an immediate action, although they do take up the swift action that could be used for one. In my experience, even with quickened spells after a round or two of combat classes that don't have built in swift actions (like a wizard or a druid) often end up without anything to do with their swift action, so it is potentially viable to mitigate a bit of damage.
The problem is that the damage mitigated is too little for even a low value spell slot and low value action. I personally think the spell would be fine if it was your level in DR and Energy resistance, rather than half your level, that would be enough to make it worth it sometime, and reducing damage on a single attack isn't ever going to be too overpowered. It would still be fine as a first level spell.
