What's Your Favorite Homage in Golarion?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I love Golarion as a setting, and it seems every time I dig through one of the national splat books, or re-read an entry in the Inner Sea World Guide, I find another reference to part of Earth's history that I've not seen in a fantasy setting before. It's one of my personal areas of geekdom, so I thought I'd see if anyone else shared it.

What's your favorite? For me it's the reference to The Varangian Guard in the huscarls of Taldor's Ulfen Guard which protect the Grand Prince.

Sovereign Court

Psychodermist Occultist = Blue Mages from final fantasy.

I have been looking for blue mages for such a long time and had no idea that it would take a new magic system to see them in the flesh.

I have no idea if it's a deliberate thing, or just a coincidence, but the references to gingerbread architecture in Irrisen (a land run by witches) always makes me think of wicked witches and gingerbread houses.

Lake Platter in the Gazetteer for the Nesmian Plains mentions a giant catfish named The General that is strangely reminiscent of General Sherman, a legendary catfish Homer tries to catch at a couples retreat in an episode of The Simpsons.

The most obvious one being that the Runelords are basically riffs on ultra-powerful wizard villains from earlier editions of D&D.

Shadow Lodge

Isle of Arenway, Druidic center and teaching center in Veradun forest seems to be based on the Isle of Anglesy in pre Roman Britian, a center of Druidic learning for both Britian and Gaul.

Varnhold vanishing and Jamestown vanishing.
Also the Sqndpoint Devil and Jersey Devil.

I love that flyting made it in to the Ulfen culture. Nothing like a little bit of ancient Norse rap battling. ;)

I'm all about the Mana Wastes that harken back to Darksun, Mad Max, and Hyperboria.
