Help Needed Making Characters for Origins and Gencon

Pathfinder Society

A friend of mine and me are making starting characters for playing at Origins and then on to Gencon...

...however I am confused between CORE and STANDARD. Do we only use the Core book or can we use the advanced options?

Please advise. Thank you.

PFS Core: Core Rulebook only
PFS Standard: Whatever you own that is defined as legal in the Additional Resources.

The Roleplaying Guild Guide should answer a lot of questions.

Thanks Andy,

I do understand that part, but what confuses me is what what adventures you can't play in if you use Standard? Or doesn't it matter?

Basically, I want to create my character via Standard but will that limit what adventures my character can play in at Origins and Gencon?

Ah right.
A Standard character can only play at a Standard table, and a Core character can only play at a Core table. If you use a Core character at a Standard table, it becomes a Standard character.
And, unless things have changed without me noticing, if you play a Standard character at a Core table, it becomes a Standard table and all the other characters then become Standard characters (this was down to how the online reporting works, and I don't know whether Paizo have been able to sort it out, because I don't GM very often and have never played Core). This means that everybody has to make sure they've got Core characters at a Core table before they start, or things get a bit messy.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Standard is the standard, Core rarely if ever gets run.

Build for standard and you'll be ok

Thanks folks!

Ask the person that's mustering the table ie seating people at tables for the games if you have a question if the game is standard or Core too. The ticket's should say.
