enchanting items, have I been misinterpreting?

Rules Questions

So, I thought i understood magic weapons and armor. but I think I may have misunderstood the rules.

Say I have a +1 longsword. How much does it cost to add an enchantment such as flaming to it?

My understanding has always been this would cost 6,000 GP (the total cost of a +2 weapon). am I right, or does it cost 2,000 GP?

Additionally, would I be able to add vorpal to that +1 longsword?

Correct on all counts. ^_^

In the second case, the cost to add vorpal would be the price of a +6 weapon, minus the price of the existing weapon. So 70,000 gp.

You price it off the effective enhancement bonus of the weapon. So a +1 flaming longsword has an effective enhancement bonus of +2.

So to increase it from +1 to a +1 flaming longsword it will cost you the difference between a +1 and a +2 weapon, so 6000gp.

Thanks for the fast answer.
