Determining spell level of Spell-Like abilities

Rules Questions

Hello, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I could not find the answer.

I'm currently making an Occultist with blasting focus, and wondered if I could take Empower and/or Quicken Spell-Like ability feat for Energy Blast (Sp).
Also, is there a way to quicken a (Su) ability?

Quicken Spell-Like Ability

Energy Blast (Sp):
As a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity, you can expend 2 points of mental focus to unleash a blast of energy. This blast has a range of 100 feet, and deals 5d6 points of energy damage, plus an additional 1d6 points for every 2 occultist levels you possess beyond 5th (6d6 at 7th, 7d6 at 9th, and so on, to a maximum of 12d6 at 19th level). The blast deals damage to each creature in a 20-foot-radius burst, but each affected creature can attempt a Reflex save to halve the damage. When you unleash an energy blast, you must decide what type of damage it deals (acid, cold, electricity, or fire). You must be at least 5th level to select this focus power.

What spell level would you say this ability has?
It is similar to a Fire Ball, but has a slower increase in d6's, the max d6 is 12 instead of 10 and it can change damage type.

From the FAQ:

Quote:

Cleric domains, sorcerer bloodlines, wizard schools, and certain other class features give spell-like abilities that aren't based on spells. What's the effective spell level for these abilities?

The effective spell level for these spell-like abilities is equal to the highest-level spell that a character of that class could normally cast at the level the ability is gained.

For example, a 1st-level elemental bloodline sorcerer has elemental ray as a spell-like ability. Because a sorcerer 1's highest-level spell available is 1st, that spell-like ability counts as a 1st-level spell. A 9th-level elemental bloodline sorcerer has elemental blast as a spell-like ability. Because a sorcerer 9's highest-level spell available is 4th, that spell-like ability counts as a 4th-level spell.

Aaah, thanks for that Jeraa. Guess that's one of the few cases not being a full caster is a good thing then. The ability is available from level 5 and will then be a 2 level spell.

Would this work with a kineticist blast as well, but then casting a quickened blast as if at level/2 - 4?

the kinetic blast I believe has a line that says it's spell level is half of your level, so it scales with you making it easier for it to punch SR.

Yeah, I know that the spell level of the kineticist blast is half character level. Mostly wondered if you could use a lower level version with the quickened spell-like ability.

Not terrible useful, but could be awesome for a melee kineticist when combined with the Ride the blast wild talent. Swift action to move up and do a full attack seems nice.

No, they only have 1 SLA that changes it's caster level.
