Companion from a Boon require book it comes from?

Pathfinder Society

Please bear with me as I'm attempting to avoid spoilers here.

I have a boon from a module that grants me access to a particular creature as an animal companion. This creature is from the Bestiary 3. The actual relevant text is "instead of choosing an animal from the list provided by the ability, you may instead select an <creature name here> (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 3 <page number here>)."

This boon does not say either way, so my question is... if I take this animal companion, do I need to have the Bestiary 3?

Yes.

The exceptions to the rule pertaining to ownership of source material are specific and finite. One needs to prove ownership and provide applicable rules text in all cases save those enumerated by the guide/additional resources document.

If the stats of the creature were included with the Chronicle, you'd be fine. Reprints such as that do not require an additional source, because all pertinent rules are already there to show to the GM.

But I don't know of any Boons like that for Companions. Just items.

Even then, looks to me like it's very unusual items or unique items that get statted out in the boon. But yeah, you do still need the Additional Resource book to actually use any non-CRB item, even if it's been granted as a boon. That's why I bought the Blood of Angels player companion when I knew I'd be getting an Aasimar race boon. And don't regret it one bit. So many useful options for aasimar in it.

I think there is one from this season where it's like X from core but here are the adjusted stats.
