Retry spellcraft checks without identify or detect magic

Rules Questions

Quote:
Retry: (...) When using detect magic or identify to learn the properties of magic items, you can only attempt to ascertain the properties of an individual item once per day. Additional attempts reveal the same results.

Does this mean that other abilities (that work as detect magic) that are neither detect magic or identify can be used more than once per day?

Such as: Arcane Sight, Detect Charm, Technomancy, Greater Detect Magic, or Analyze Aura.

Spoiler:

Arcane Sight: Similar to of detect magic.

Detect Charm: as detect magic.

Technomancy: This spell functions as detect magic.

Greater Detect Magic: This spell functions as detect magic.

Analyze Aura: as detect magic to determine a magic aura’s power.

If it says "functions as detect magic," and detect magic can only be used once per day, then it can only be used once per day. Worse, that's once per day using any means of ascertaining the properties of an object, not once per spell you have available.

Yes, this is normally how i would rule it aswell.

However, there is precedence for a different answer here. Why does it bother mentioning identify if identify also works as detect magic?
Why even bother saying those spell names, if in the end you still require spellcraft to identify magic items? It simply needed a one liner saying that you have to wait 24 hours to attempt to identify again, no need to mention specific spell names.

You mean why say

actual Spellcraft wrote:
This skill is also used to identify the properties of magic items in your possession through the use of spells such as detect magic and identify.

instead of

hypothetical Spellcraft wrote:
This skill is also used to identify the properties of magic items in your possession.

right?

It's because the latter looks like you can id an item with Spellcraft without using a spell at all. And you want "such as..." so that newbies know what to go look for---the CRB is a tutorial and a reference.

I suppose they could have dropped the two words "and identify", but I just don't see it as a meaningful difference. The editors don't optimize word count that closely except when page layout absolutely demands it.
