How would you build the crew of firefly as gestalt characters in a pathfinder setting?
Zoe, Fighter / Slayer. she is the most in your face fighter of the group.
Mal. Maybe swashbuckler, investigator. He's a very showboating throw caution to the wind type fighter, but he has some skills. Cavalier seems like a possibility too.
Jane, barbarian/ rogue? Barbain spring to mind immediately when thinking of Jane. He's also a bit of a scoundrel so maybe a rogue archetype fits here.
Book, warpriest/monk. There are a few that could work as he is a shepherd, which seems kinda priestly. I think warpriest fits best with his teaching who will listen and trying to set an example opposed to outright teaching.
Inara, cleric/bard. Obviously her charisma is through the roof. She is also more adapt inspiring the crew than fighting directly herself.
Simon, life oracle/paladin (hospitaler). He's a healbot. Outside of a combat role he is very by the books and snobbish which is stereotypical of a paladin.
River, so open. I think an oracle would work as one class, maybe ancestor, but have her curse be speaking in tounges all the time. Some kind of mentalist class as her second.
Kaylee, bard/rogue, bard because she is going to lean heavily on her allies in combat, also she looks up to Inara and wants to emulate her to some degree. Her social skills are also better than most of the crew.
Wash, sorcerer/bloodrager. I feel like I'm a bit out on a limb here, but... he isn't a skilled character. He can fly well, but that's it, and everyone gets at least one skill point. He is charismatic, but no actual social skills. I feel he would rather use arcane magic than direct combat given the choice, but when pushed to it I can see him raging out and killing some folks.
That's my initial take. What did I get wrong?

How?
Step 1, remove all classes with magic.
Or did you mean that you wanted characters inspired by the crew of Firefly?
Mal uses charisma, has some decent skill, and is mostly competent with ranged weapons. Mysterious stranger gunslinger combined with rogue.
Barbarian is a good fit for Jane. Maybe with that archetype that lets them TWF with a tech gun and a melee weapon. Again, rogue seems good here to add some skills.
I think you're on the right track with Inara. A bard without casting, or another class that gets Inspire Courage and doesn't cast.
Simon is possibly an alchemist, and I would reflavor extracts to be purely alchemical in nature.
River might legitimately be magical. Probably one of the psychic classes. Not sure which exactly.

Inspired by works, but I was thinking if they lived in a world under the pathfinder ruleset. While they don't have magic in their world, some probably would if they lived in a world where it was commonplace.
Just the opposite with guns. While most characters on the firefly can use guns, that's because it's the weapon of choice in their 'verse. Guns are less popular here, so the idea that they would all be gunslingers is at best boring.
The other thing I felt was difficult is that there are clearly some members that are simply higher level than others. For example, I feel that both Kaylee and Inara should be bards, Inara is a much more highly trained one.
Simon as an alchemist works. I still feel paladin is a possibility, but he is much more int based than cha.

I'd have a hard time not building Kaylee as an Occultist or Scavenger Investigator - her single biggest skill is as a mechanic so she should have gear-related abilities.

I like the idea of cavalier for Mal. Inara could use one of the newer social classes, like mesmerist or vigilante. Simon as an alchemist or investigator definitely makes more sense than a paladin. I definitely don't like bloodrager for Wash, but I'm not really sure what else to use.
I've always seen Kaley as a druid whose animal companion just happens to be a spaceship. With that in mind, any companion-based class would work, even something like construct rider alchemist if you wanted to have it literally be a machine. But I'd probably take a bit of liberty with the setting change and make her a bard//summoner, with Serenity as her eidolon.
As for River, one side of the gestalt should probably be something martial, maybe brawler for the unarmed combat or bloodrager for the strange inherent powers and abrupt violence. Psychic is the natural thought for the other side, but I'd sort of want to make her a witch, if only to honor this exchange:
Mal: Girl knows things. Things she shouldn't. Things she couldn't.
Jayne: What, are you— are you sayin' she's a witch?
Wash: Yes, Jayne. She's a witch. She has had congress with the beast.
Jayne: She's in Congress?
Wash: How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious.

Surprisingly, unless you've read Shepherd's Tale, Book aught to be an Inquisitor/Vigilante.
Speaking of Vigilante, River as a Brawler/Vigilante would work as well.
Mal: Cavalier*/Skald (Or Drill Sergeant/Vanguard... other classes that hand out Teamwork feats)
Zoey: Gunslinger/Slayer
Wash: Bard/Occultist [with the ship as his implement]
Jayne: Barbarian/Ranger
Kaylee: Druid/Investigator
Book: Inquisitor/Vigilante [who is always in his Social persona]
Inara: Bard/Rogue
Doc: Alchemist
River: Brawler/Vigilante
