Returning Player: Skill Unlock question

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I just stumbled upon this, is there some sorta guide/tips/examples for the "Craft 20 Ranks: You can craft magic armor, magic weapons, magic rings, and wondrous items that fall under your category of Craft using the normal Craft rules."

I play the alchemist, and was wondering if it's even worth for me, can I use Craft (Alchemy) to make wondrous items?

I believe they're referring to the "Creating Magic Whatever" sections here that all say something like "Skill Used in Creation: Spellcraft or Craft (armor)." Sadly Craft(alchemy) is only cited for potions.

Not quite correct. Wondrous items say:

Quote:
Skill Used In Creation: Spellcraft or an applicable Craft or Profession skill check.

Craft (Alchemy) could be an appropriate Craft for some wondrous items, such as elixers, ungents, ointments, silversheen, marvelous pigments, universal solvent, sovereign glue, or any other liquid/paste wondrous item.

You could also justify it for other wondrous items by saying you soak the components in some sort of alchemical bath during creation, though that would be up the the GM.

So what you're saying is.

Infinite Sovereign Glue.

Thanks for the catch, Jeraa.

Since Craft(alchemy) can also be used to make an alchemical lab, I'd add to your list any wondrous items that basically serve as spiffy alchemy tools, like the Alchemy Manual's focusing flask, retort of control, vial of efficacious medicine, and winged bottle.

While baths are flavorful, I'd be wary of making the strongest Craft skill so much stronger relative to the others. Especially since you could also potentially bathe armor or weapons or rings, too.

Liberty's Edge

Balance doesn't matter at level 20 XD

Guess I should scour for possible items, as Alchemist I always loved the crafting and out of combat aspects, especially now that they also added a discovery that lets us craft constructs with Craft (alchemy).

Side question: I haven't played in a while so forgot the crafting rules, but how well does the Skill Unlock speed up crafting, I saw it touched that part of crafting a little:

"5 Ranks: When determining your weekly progress, double the result of your Craft check before multiplying the result by the item's DC.

15 Ranks: When you determine your progress, the result of your check is how much work you complete each day in silver pieces."

Are those two effects impact enough to warrant grabbing them now that they also can apply to some Wondrous Items and Constructs?

Basically the first doubles your speed and the second multiplies it by five (since PF thinks there are five work days in a week). If you want to finish things a 20th-level person cares about in a vaguely reasonable time those are probably a must, even with the Unchained crafting rules. (Speaking of which, those are quite advantageous for you; try to get your GM to use them if they haven't decided on chained vs unchained crafting yet.)
