A level 6 Logan

Advice

So one of my new players is absolutely dead-set on being Logan since he has recently watch the new movie. You see where i'm going with this, how do i make a level 6 wolverine?

i'm think natural attacking barbarian with regenerative stance + diehard

Invulnerable Rager would prolly be good, extra DR and eventually a lil resist to mimic Logans ability to take damage, as well as the Beast Totem rage line, 2 Claw attacks that become 1d8s and Natural Armor and Pounce, only during Rage tho, but still

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Tell him to play a superhero RPG.
There are lots out there. Some are really good.
Try the d20 hero srd.

Then when he's gotten it out of his system, play Pathfinder.

Or a Spelleating Bloodrager

They gain Fast healing instead of DR. (Tho they can gain DR via spells)

I literally have a friend who wants the same thing! We made a modified Human (Mutant) and gave him Scent and Fast Healing 1. He decided on going Uncontrollable Rager_Barbarian/ Mobile Fighter_Fighter. Using a more powerful version of an Adamantine Tekko Kagi(1d6) that he could extend (deals 1HP to himself) or retract as a swift action. You could also just grant 2 Claw attacks. Working pretty well so far.

A metamorph alchemist with the spontaneous healing discovery is another option. They lose most of the alchemist abilities, and gain long-term alter self & monstrous physique I by level 6, which you can use to get claws or other natural attacks, and 50% fortification by level 6 (so crits aren't as likely to take them down.)

My normal suggestion here would be to alter the Mooncursed archetype to give them access to becoming a wolverine. However, thats more Were-wolverine rather than Wolverine.

Umm, have you considered the Unkillable Barbarian?

Silly Barbarian Ideas:

Human (Or Half Orc) MoMS Monk 2/Invulnerable Rager Barbarian 4
1: Endurance, Diehard, Improved Unarmed Strike, Stunning Fist, Dodge
2: Crane Style
3: Combat Expertise
4:
5: Stalwart
6:

Right now this allows him to take a -4 to hit in order to gain DR 5/-, which stacks with his normal DR for a total of DR 7/-

Once you get to level 13 you can pick up improved Stalwart, which will give you DR 10/- to stack with your DR 5/- from 11 levels of Barbarian. DR 15 is pretty strong. Slap on Beast Totem, lesser, and Renewed Vigor and you are pretty tanky. If he chose improved damage reduction 3x by level 20 he can scale up to 25 DR with this build

Something important for your friend to understand is that this game is an RPG where your character will grow and improve over time. Wolverine is a level 20 mythic character in Pathfinder, along with Sherlock Holmes, Batman, and etc. It is vital that he understands this because he will have a character styled after Logan, however he will PALE in comparison to Logan as far as his capabilities go for an extremely long time. Possibly forever.

Would you be willing to let him take the Mutant template in place of a class level? He could use that to pick up fast healing and claws. Alternatively, let him play as a troll, since trolls in pathfinder have pretty much the exact same power set.

** spoiler omitted **

I think that could be improved upon with 5 levels Martial Artist_Monk (Immune to Fatigue) and Invulnerable Rager. Add the Guarded Life rage powers, the Flagellant feat, the Bolstered Resilience feat and Stalwart/Improved Stalwart... between the DR/- and the double DR/- vs nonlethal, you're looking at a crap ton of damage to actually reduce this monster below 0 HP.

Level 20
DR30/- (Class, Bolstered Resilience, Improved Stalwart)
DR20 vs nonlethal (Class)
can convert up to 40 lethal into nonlethal (Greater Guarded Life)

50 damage = 0
70 damage = 20 nonlethal

If someone is Immune to nonlethal... you would basically have DR70/- against one attack per round (that would reduce HP below 0).
