Grappling for animal companion

Advice

Doing some calculations I've determined while under the effects of Animal growth my animal companion will have a +26 CMB at level 10, is that good? What is the average CMD of creatures between levels 10-15?

To set up a base line, here are a few CR10 and CR14 CMDs
CR10 Martial: BUGBEAR AMBUSHER CMD 27
CR11 Dragon: ADULT BLACK DRAGON CMD 33
CR10 Caster: UNDEAD CREATOR CMD 16

CR 14 Martial: ANGEL SLAYER CMD 33
CR 14 Dragon: CRAG LINNORM CMD 45
CR 14 Caster: SERPENTFOLK HIGH PRIEST CMD 28

So, it looks like he will always be useful against mooks and during low risk fights (CR = lvl). But against epic opponents you will have to pick your targets.

So for example trying to grapple a Bugbear would be 100% guaranteed as long as I don't roll a 1 correct?

Yep, you have that bugbear very grappled. Grapple does have a way of letting you down at the worst of times, 1 is an auto fail to maintain or initiate and 20 is an auto succeed to escape.

I have a grapple animal companion I have found that the key is to pick your target wisely. My AC always goes after the "guy in robes" or the guy the a holy symbol ready. Have it attack casters and it will succeed most of the time.

It also tends to have the greatest effect on the fight.

Very interesting thank you. Do you mind if I ask you which AC you have and which feats you choose?

I have used a big cat and with Unarmed Strike, Improved Grapple, Greater grapple, power attack, toughness. Though if you stick to casters the +4 you get from grab is usually enough.
