Heirloom Weapon trait and Masterwork Transformation spell

Rules Questions

Hello everybody and thank you for your time.

I have created a keleshite bard (archaeologist) for my upcoming Mummy's Mask campaign. I wanted him to wield a scimitar, so I gave him the Heirloom Weapon equipment trait, choosing the variant which gives the character the proficiency with a specific weapon. My idea was to enchant that specific scimitar with the spell masterwork transformation in the future, so I can further enchant the weapon without losing the proficiency. Now I'm asking, is that a legal strategy? Won't the spell make the weapon a different one, thus making me lose the proficiency?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

I don't believe the spell states that it replaces your scimitar with a different one. It says it "becomes a masterwork equivalent." Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with that combination.

Or use 'Chosen Child' or 'Rich Parents' to start with 900 gp and buy a masterwork scimitar for your heirloom weapon?

That wouldn't be the same. My character's parent are not rich, and he doesn't come from a region which would justify the Chosen Child trait. He is a native of Osirion, an orphan, and that scimitar would be the only thing he has which belonged to his father.

Liberty's Edge

If you are really worried, Exemplar Weapon Salve (350g Link here) will make a weapon into a masterwork weapon without changing the base weapon itself.

I think the spell works without issue.

Yeah, this is a well-known trick.

It's a way to get a weapon proficiency out of a "mere trait", but let's be honest, Weapon Proficiency (something martial) would rarely be worth an actual whole feat normally. So it's nothing to be up in arms about.

I think we can.. disarm... any controversy about it.
