Grappling?

Am I understanding this correctly?

2 humanoid creatures are grappled, Human A has successfully grappled Human B.

Since A initiated the grapple, on his turn he can only do damage with a single attack with a successful CMB+5 grapple check.

Since B is defending the grapple, on his turn he can make a full attack with standard attack rolls.

It sucks to initiate a grapple unless you know your opponent doesn't have any and skilled with light weapons.

I would think the initiating grappler would also be allowed full attack actions against the defender, but I guess that isn't the case RAW.

Or you could do the "PIN" maneuver and completely lock B down until he manages to break the grapple. Also, if A have natural attacks, feel free to use them...

Off to work. ciao

There are lots of situations where grappling is effective (a two-handed weapon specialist, a caster) - as long as you have an ally to actually finish them. But it's not great in a one-on-one battle, unless you also have the ability to pin and tie up your opponent.

The one in control of the Grapple can totally make a Full Attack the next round. When you are in control of the Grapple, releasing the Grapple is a Free Action. Then you can Full Attack.

Pretty much. There is a restriction. You can't take any action that require 2 hands to perform. So you can't Full Attack with 2 weapons. If you Full Attack with a 2 handed weapon, you have to use it 1 handed, so, like a -4 to attack, I think.

There certainly are times, places, and characters for which Grappling is not the right tool for the job. But then again, Grappling can be positively devastating.

There are ways of achieving Grapple attacks in conjunction with a regular Full Attack. You've got to work it into your character build.

In general that's not allowed at all, though a GM might allow you to use a greatsword as an improvised one-handed weapon, which would give you that -4 to hit and also reduce damage dice and disable enhancement bonuses, weapon feats, etc.
