Monster Spell LIst

Advice

Now i know many monsters have spell lists. As a player i never cared but now as a DM i am wanting to up a creatures Caster Level to make hium more of a challenge and i know an increase in CL usually means more spells. So where do i draw them from. And also where in the book can i find how to calculate a monsters save dc's that dont have a class. Thanks for the help.

Usually they cast as sorcerers. DCs are usually based on their Charisma bonus.

okay thanks.

You could also look at their feats, monsters tend to have several non optimal feast that you could swap out to make them better casters.

If the monster casts Spell-like Abilities, they're always based on Cha, unless otherwise stated. If they're actually casting spells, it's always stated somewhere in the monster description from which spell list the monster is casting, which usually coincides with what ability score they're using for spells (Casts spells as an Xth-level Druid = Wis; Wizard = Int; etc). Another way to double check which ability score is being used to cast spells is to line up any offensive spell DC's listed, and compare them to each mental ability score modifier (casts spells as an Xth-level Druid, Entangle is DC 14, with a +1 Wis modifier and no DC-boosting feats/abilities, but Cha has a +3 modifier - this monster must use Cha as his casting stat).

For instance, a Nymph casts spells as a 7-th level druid (without the ability to spontaneously cast Summon Nature's Ally). The DCs for the spells (14 for 1st level, 16 for 3rd level) are consistent with Wisdom as the casting stat, even though Nymphs have higher Charisma than Wisdom (25 vs 17).
