Skull & Shackles Mesmerist

Advice

Hello guys, sunday we are gonna start this AP, i want to know it's worth play a mesmerist class.
My party are:
Ranger freebooter
Unchained Rogué
Bloodrager Abissal
Swashbuclker

Thanks

Well, the lack of arcane and divine casting will be a bit tricky, but go for it- you'll stand out as having the most casting, but not so much more that you're solving everything.

I've never seen a Mesmerist in actual play, but it looks ok.

I am playing this AP (currently in the 4th book) and what I can tell you is that you absolutely need at least one party face. Without social skills you can have a TPK as early as in the first book. And if you manage to survive you will also have a lot of problems in the next ones. A Mesmerist should shine in this role.

At least one PC should have Profession (Sailor) maximized. Always.

Combat is usually very easy, although there are some brutal fights. A controller and a buffer would be well received. A blaster can also help you a lot in the first book. In the next ones, and with your party composition, one or two of you should invest in UMD (Maybe the rogue and you).

All in all I think that playing a Mesmerist is very worthy!

I always play wizard or support cleric or oracle and this time i want to play something diferent and useful for the party.

To what Kiani said I must add that having a way to deal with environmental dangers is also needed.
I think that with a mesmerist you could be a great party face, which is an important role in this AP, so go for it!

I don't blame you for wanting to try something new, but cleric of Besmara gets the fun option to trade out a domain for a pirate themed familiar.

Go for it, then! My advice is to always try to take at least one spell that affects the physical world each spell level- Unseen Servant, Levitate, and so on.

As a mesmerist, you will be nearly useless on the deck of a ship so be prepared to suck ass for the first couple levels. Not saying you won't be able to contribute to the game, just saying. Mesmerist is a class that starts slow anyways. Also, don't get too attached to any party members with a low Fort save.

6+Int skill points is great for the start of the game, so long as they're put in piratical skills. (Climb, Profession:Sailor, Swim, etc.)

And Diplomacy. Diplomacy is your friend here.

I would imagine a mesmerist would rock at a certain ally-building bit of the first adventure, provided he can survive his daily chores...

My standard recommendation here is always a bard. When Kiani's player asked me what to play in S&S my answer was «bard».
Social character, skilled, can use magic device, can be a supporter at healing, it's a great class for this AP.
But if you're tired of the supporting role maybe it's not the best class for you.
I see that the other players picked mostly martial classes and you're probably trying to fill the holes. I've seen that too many times. So play what you enjoy the most, that's the best advice I can give.

I was thinking about, sorcerer be arcane and face or storm druid for utility.

Druids are a great class and you would fill many holes in your party.
I can think on some parts of the adventure where a druid would break it.
The only advantage I see in the sorcerer is high charisma and some social skills, but I think the Druid's spell list is probably more fitting for this adventure. The sorcerer hasn't a lot of skill points either, which is proving to be a serious handicap to the sorcerers in my S&S game.
Your rogue, if he has a decent charisma, could probably be a good option as the face of the group, if the player is willing.

Thanks for your Advices guys, especially Kileanna, i think i will try luck with bard.

If you don't want to go full supporter, you can always try some archetypes like Dervish Dancer or Dawnflower Dervish.

I'm glad we have been of help! I hope you enjoy whatever you choose to play!
Feel free to ask for any advice you need.

Your party is a bunch of martials, so you might want to try the skald over the bard.
