Any ideas on how to emulate Mordecai from Borderlands?

Advice

I'm trying to figure out how to build a ranged class that focuses on Bloodwing (a bird or bird-like companion) while also allowing me to deal decent damage at range. My DMs generally don't like gunslingers so I'd prefer to stay out of that class.

I'm thinking about going human hunter with the eye for talent racial trait and I'm having trouble deciding between the standard bird, whisper vulture, or the roc (resembling the Borderlands 2 Bloodwing before "it" happened). I'm leaning towards the roc but I don't know how much it'd be able to fly around when it becomes large at level 7. I run in Pathfinder Society so the location is always changing.

Any advice for classes/feats/traits/companion/etc. would be a great help!

Hunter or Ranger for class, but over all you got it down pat. For feats, just go for the basic ranged combat feats: Point blank shot, precise shot, weapon focus (x), etc. and if you feel like adding a few more attacks to your bird, evolved companion.

The standard for large mounts is Narrow Frame. Works just as well for an attack pet. Nethys says it's legal but you'd want to check that yourself.
